I went to the healer's building early in the morning to get my arm checked. The burned marks had stopped hurting as much but they still looked terrible. Black and twisted across my entire left arm from shoulder to fingertips.
The healer unwrapped the bandages carefully and examined the marks closely. She touched them gently and I felt a slight tingle but no real pain.
"How does it feel," she asked.
"Better than yesterday," I said. "The burning has stopped. Now it just feels strange. Like my arm does not quite belong to me anymore."
"That is normal with magical burns," the healer said. "The magic changes the flesh. It will take time for your body to adjust. But you should heal completely."
"Will the marks go away," I asked.
"No," the healer said. She looked at me seriously. "These marks are permanent. They are part of you now. But they will fade somewhat over time. They will become more like regular scars and less like open wounds."
