Rex Pov
I was lying on the cold floor of my cell, staring at nothing, when the pain started. It came out of nowhere. A sharp stabbing sensation right in the center of my chest.
"What is happening?" I gasped.
Then I felt it. Something was pulling at Yolande. Not pulling her out of me but pulling her attention away. Like someone was trying to get her to focus on something else.
"What are they doing?" Yolande hissed in my head. "What is that fool Kyran trying now?"
"I do not know," I said. "But I hope it works."
"It will not work," Yolande said. "Nothing they do will work. I am too strong. Too angry. Too determined to let them stop me now."
The pain in my chest got worse. I curled up into a ball and wrapped my arms around myself. It felt like someone was reaching into my chest and squeezing my heart.
"Stop," I begged. "Whatever you are doing to me, just stop."
