Urdon Pov
I held my bleeding palm over the moonstone and watched as my blood dripped down. Each drop felt like it was pulling something out of me. Not just blood but energy. Life force. Strength.
"Keep going," Kyran said. "We need more from you than from Freda. Alpha blood is the key to breaking the curse."
I nodded and squeezed my hand tighter, making more blood flow. Five drops. Six drops. Seven drops. The cloth wrapped around my palm was completely soaked now.
The red glow from the moonstone got brighter with each drop. But something else was happening too. The tattoo on my chest started burning.
At first, it was just warm. Uncomfortable but bearable. Then it got hotter. And hotter. Until it felt like someone was pressing a red-hot iron directly against my skin.
"The tattoo," I gasped. "It is burning."
"That is the curse of fighting back," Kyran said. "It knows we are trying to break it. It is going to hurt Urdon. You have to push through the pain."
