Rex Pov
I woke up with a terrible taste in my mouth. Metallic and bitter and wrong. I stumbled to the bathroom and spat in the sink. Blood. Fresh blood mixed with saliva.
I looked in the mirror and saw that I had bitten my tongue in my sleep. There were teeth marks on both sides, and it was still bleeding a little.
"What was I dreaming about?" I said out loud.
Then the memory hit me. I had been dreaming about the mating rites. About standing in the ceremony circle with Urdon. About grabbing him from behind and tearing his throat out with my bare teeth.
The dream had felt so real. I could still taste his blood in my mouth even though I knew it was just my own blood from biting my tongue.
"Good morning, Rex," Yolande said in my head. "Did you sleep well?"
"You made me dream that," I said. "You made me dream about killing him."
