Rex Pov
I woke up slowly, like I was climbing out of a deep, dark hole. Everything felt heavy and wrong; my head pounded with pain that made it hard to think. My chest ached like someone had reached inside and squeezed my heart. My arms felt like they were on fire.
I opened my eyes and saw a white ceiling above me. It had cracks running through the plaster and water stains in the corners. This was not my ceiling. I tried to remember where I was.
"The healer's room," I muttered. My voice came out rough and scratchy like I had been screaming.
I tried to sit up and immediate pain shot through my entire body. I gasped and fell back against the pillows. Everything hurt too much to move.
"Easy there," a voice said from beside the bed. "Do not move too fast or you will hurt yourself worse."
I turned my head carefully and saw the healer standing next to me. She had a concerned expression on her face and was holding a damp cloth in her hands.
