Chapter 214 - Facing the Dragon God's True Terror

In High School DxD, when it comes to the largest creatures, there are only three names worth mentioning.

The Great Red.

The Infinite Dragon God Ophis.

And the Beast 666.

Among them, Ophis and the Beast 666 never truly appeared in the anime in their complete forms.

As a result, for most anime viewers, the largest creature in the DxD world was the Great Red-the crimson Western dragon whose size description changed between its two appearances.

By Hiro's estimation, during the Great Red's first appearance, its presence easily exceeded a thousand meters.

By the second appearance, within the Dimensional Gap, it looked as though its size had been cut in half.

And now-

Before Hiro's eyes lay a completely black Eastern dragon.

Head and tail connected in a perfect loop.

The Infinite Dragon God Ophis.

If one hand held Ophis's head and the other straightened her body, this black Ouroboros would stretch to at least two thousand meters in length.

"Putting strength aside..."

"Your size alone is pretty terrifying."

Forced nearly a kilometer back when Ophis returned to her original form, Hiro looked up at the massive dragon eyes and muttered quietly.

Objectively speaking, Ophis's true form was indeed spectacular.

But strangely enough-

It didn't give him much of a sense of danger.

"Roar-!"

A dragon roar that shook the world erupted.

At the same time, pitch-black mana surged outward from the Ouroboros, closing in on Hiro from every direction.

The mana Ophis condensed simply by manifesting her true form already exceeded the total mana of a transcendent like Sirzechs by many times over.

Hiro understood this very clearly.

He had once possessed [Sirzechs-level Mana] himself.

The Great Red was "Dream," feeding on the dreams and fantasies of living beings to grow stronger.

Ophis was "Infinity."

She might not be able to defeat the Great Red-

But her total mana capacity exceeded his.

No tricks.

No attributes.

She simply had more.

So much more that she could casually fire off one-

No, several-

Sirzechs-level attacks without a second thought.

She didn't bother converting that mana into lightning, storms, or ice.

She released it directly.

Pure mana cannons.

That was the privilege of having infinite mana.

Yes.

Truly infinite.

Because from Hiro's perception, even after unleashing such an attack, the total mana within Ophis's body had barely diminished.

Perhaps it had decreased.

But to a degree so small it was negligible.

Crack.

Faced with mana flooding in from all directions, Hiro didn't draw [Avalon].

Instead, he quietly activated the [God's Eye] he had just closed.

With a crisp sound, a deep blue Susanoo enveloped him.

Rumble-!

The mana slammed into the fiery red shield, erupting with a deafening boom.

And then-

Nothing.

Forget damage.

Hiro didn't even feel a tremor or a gust of wind within the Susanoo.

Clearly, even mana built upon overwhelming quantity and quality wasn't enough to breach the defense of a Susanoo equipped with the [Yata Mirror].

The fiery red Yata Mirror rested in his left hand.

In his right, he gripped a gourd-shaped hilt.

From the mouth of the gourd, a ten-meter-long blade of flame-like light extended outward.

As the first wave of impact was blocked, the Susanoo began to expand under Hiro's control.

Deep blue and fiery red intertwined.

The figure within looked less like a warrior-

And more like a god.

The skeletal frame grew legs.

Then a torso.

Armor-like plating spread across its form from head to toe.

As the plating reached the chest, layers of scale mail followed immediately, transforming the half-skeletal underworld giant into a fully armored divine colossus.

Golden light ignited within its eyes.

Hiro didn't wait for Ophis's next attack.

The Susanoo continued to grow.

Five hundred meters.

Then more.

Soon, it stood tall enough to meet Ophis's true form eye to eye.

The sword and shield in its hands expanded alongside it.

"Eh?"

Across from him, Ophis stared at the giant that had suddenly swallowed Hiro.

Her dragon eyes blinked.

Her massive head tilted slightly.

Confusion was clear.

"Ophis."

"Spacing out in battle isn't a good habit."

Hiro's voice rang out calmly from within the Susanoo.

Squelch.

The sound of a blade piercing flesh echoed through the air.

Before Ophis could react, the flame-like blade in the Susanoo's right hand crossed the distance between them and stabbed straight into her body.

And then-

Ophis shrank.

Not in the sense of adjusting her posture or compressing her form.

Rather, her dragon body seemed to lose its solidity.

Like something made of mud and water, it flowed.

It streamed along the length of the Totsuka Sword.

Pulled steadily toward the gourd at the hilt-

The sealing space connected to a mysterious realm.

"So the sealing works."

Watching this, Hiro nodded inwardly.

He was satisfied with the first practical test.

Roar-!

In just two seconds, nearly half of Ophis's massive body had been absorbed.

The Infinite Dragon God instinctively let out a roar filled with unmistakable terror.

She abandoned control over the middle of her body.

Her dragon form straightened violently.

Mana exploded outward once more.

Her head lunged forward, jaws opening wide as she attempted to bite down on the Susanoo's head.

At the same time, her tail lashed out like a whip.

The sound barrier shattered.

The strike landed against the Susanoo's waist.

Boom-

A shockwave rippled outward.

And that was all.

The attack still failed to affect the Susanoo.

Or Hiro within.

The [Yata Mirror] had no blind spots.

There was no vulnerability beneath the feet.

No opening behind the head.

Once activated, it was a full-spectrum defense.

The shield itself was merely a manifestation.

Not the entirety of the ability.

Of course, this didn't mean the [Yata Mirror] had no limits to its coverage.

Shield in the left hand.

Sword in the right.

A third arm, clad in scale armor, extended from the Susanoo's left waist.

It reached forward.

Straight into Ophis's open dragon mouth.

The elbow braced against her lower jaw.

The palm pressed firmly against her upper jaw.

Like a dragon-slaying hero carved from ancient myth.

Creeeeak.

Outside the [Yata Mirror's] effective range, Ophis bit down with all her might.

But she couldn't crush it.

The third arm held firm.

All that rang out was the grating sound of teeth scraping uselessly against steel.
