The underground bunker was as black as the bottom of the ocean. The giant master computer was completely dead, ruined by the massive explosion in the digital sea. There were no flashing lights, no humming wires, and no sounds at all.
In the heavy, terrifying silence, a single, tiny spark flashed in the dark.
It was a small, familiar sound. Slowly, like a tired man waking up from a very deep sleep, a soft blue light flickered into the darkness.
Adonis lifted his heavy head. His bright blue eyes blinked once, twice, and then stayed open, casting a warm glow across the ruined computer room. He took a deep, rattling breath.
He was alive.
He reached down with a shaky hand and grabbed the thick, black cable plugged into his open chest. With a rough pull, he ripped it out and tossed it onto the floor. The heavy metal plates on his chest slid shut, locking his glowing inner fire safely away.
