Lukas had just walked for a few metres when his eyes fell on a scene which he wasn't expecting to see soon. A dead walker was biting on the neck of another before pulling out the evolution crystal with his teeth and eating it...
'Damn these bastards have already the urge to evolve...' He drew his bow and immediately shot it with a weak shot
The arrow hit the back of the dead walker...
BOOM!
A small blast occurred which destroyed 80% of the body of the dead walker, leaving only its head along with neck and two feet...
Lukas immediately dashed and took out the half exposed crystal which was clean without any rotting blood around it's surface, it looked a little heavier than the usual ones. The difference was negligible but since he was actively trying to see the difference due to the dead walker absorbing an evolution crystal, he perceived it.
While running he began absorbing the crystal. He moved through the narrow footpath, hiding himself as much as he could behind the trees dividing the main road and the footpath.
The time taken to absorb this crystal was also a little higher than before. It seems that this crystal didn't only count as one... 'Did I get two crystals for one...'
He had checked his system previously when he absorbed four crystals and there was another information beside level. He opened it again.

As expected that crystal was counted as two... 'Good to know that'
As he moved he was expecting to see one or two humans but it seems like this area is totally empty. Were they saved by the nearest sanctuary or died already... it was hard to say.
His aunt's house was in a society similar to his, a little farther from the main city, and it was also a posh area. It was only about two miles from the city, so it would not take long for him to know whether she was alright.
"SKREEEE!!!"
"Fuck..." Lukas looked towards the direction as a dead walker who had just come out from a narrow street and found him, "Why do you all bastards have to scream, isn't it better to eat alone than share with others"
He was about to take aim and shoot it when he saw a lot of dead walkers coming from different parts... 'Dammit'
He didn't go for the kill but decided to focus on fleeing. He wouldn't be able to get the crystal anyway.
There were two dead walkers coming from the front too, he just dodged them calmly as they screamed further, irritating the shit out of him... "Shut up you MF's"
He dashed as fast as he could, going inside a small street to get away from the eyes of most of them.
After a few minutes of hassle he entered an empty building and hid himself. He was a little tired and it was better to rest right now.
'I hope there are fewer of these mindless beasts at aunt's place'
He could only hope or else the survivability of his aunt might be questionable.
'First thing first, I should level up at least once'
He wasn't far from leveling up so it wouldn't take much effort, he just had to make sure to kill and get the crystals fast and hide before others could see him.
After feeling his breath recover Lukas peeked outside the house and when none of the dead walkers were near he took a step out and walked through the narrow streets. Eventually he would reach the outer area and take the main road.
He was also looking for one or two lone dead walkers and to his relief he found a group of four walking together like brothers. It is really quite strange, even if they are mindless, they usually form a group of three or four... 'Is it survival instinct or something'
Oh well, good for him, he can get the crystals to level up.
He pulled the bowstring, "Hello there bitches.."
The dead walkers had just turned around when they were blown by the arrow which hit the ground near them.
Lukas immediately went and picked the crystals and an equipment which looked like an arm guard before running away from the location and entering another vacant property.
This time it was a cafe.
He immediately started absorbing the crystals and when he reached his twentieth crystal he absorbed it with anticipation.
When the crystal dissolved in his hand, he immediately felt stinging pain in his body along with him becoming breathless in seconds... 'Fuck, don't tell me even levelling will hurt like shit?'
Just as he thought that, he felt the pain subsiding and his breathing becoming normal. He could feel a subtle increase in his strength, it wasn't much but still any increment in strength is welcomed right now.
He looked at his system and finally saw the level 0 status being replaced by level one...

He frowned looking at 100 crystals required for level up as it didn't seem to be the right number.
If every Level 1 crystal is equivalent to 20 level 0 crystals as that much were required for him to level up to one, then wouldn't the required number be 400 for going to level 2.
Lukas really was confused on this part... suddenly his eyes widened a little... 'Don't tell me that these bastards only require total five crystals to level up'
If that is the case then it also means that the crystals inside human bodies are more valuable or maybe just that humans require more crystals to level up due to some restrictions... 'Dammit, thinking all this just makes my head hurt...'
Finding level 1 crystals would be tough since only a few dead walkers seem to be getting the urge to evolve, so getting a hundred level zero crystals is the only way right now.
