Arc 2 chapter 23
The battle was already complicated but now it just got more complicated and unpredictable when a giant undead head with a terrifying aura just appeared from the top of the storm where the core is located.
Everyone at the battle field was frozen from the sight of it and couldn't move their bodies except for Anos and Albert who it looked like they were on a cat and mouse chase at one of the chains holding the undead for now and it seems Albert was about to catch up to Anos who had a head start to the undead and if Anos were to make it first, then he would take over the undead using his ability Experiment and for the mana he would need to drain the Sun Spiders dry of their mana to do it, which may cost their lives but they'll gladly sacrifice themselves for Anos's cause.
Right now Anos has finally made it at the top of the undead along with Albert and they now found themselves staring each other down as to see who will make the first move.
Albert: first of all you're really fast and second it ends here.
Anos: what makes you so sure?
Albert: cuz there's no way you can beat me. Your fate is sealed.
Anos: fate? What do you know about fate?
Albert: I know a lot.
Anos: you know nothing about fate Super Punch! Tell me this: do you think you can control your fate?
Albert: obviously.
Anos: how?
Albert: I'm not the guy for these type of questions but I think it depends on what you do to control your fate.
Anos: okay let's say that a woman was close to succeeding in life, like let's say she made an awesome invention and when she was heading to a city to represent her big invention and along the way her carriage got raded by bandits and then they destroy her invention, rape her and then kill her, can you truly say that she was in control of her fate? Can you say that she wanted to be fucking raped and killed? Can you say that?! Tell me! Can you say that depending on what you do you can control your fate?!!
Albert: don't get emotional on me bro—
Anos: TELL ME! CAN YOU?!
Albert:....
Anos: no you can't... As long as there are people in this world, it's impossible to control your fate. If you want to control fate, then you must control the people.
Albert: is that what you're after? To use the storm to control people?
Anos: yes...i want the people around me to be in control of their fate...if so, then maybe she wouldn't have left... But enough about that, but hey do you know about the origin of the storm?
Albert: nope. I take it you're about to tell me?
Anos: ah yes it's a really interesting story I tell ya.
Albert: well since everyone is paralyzed right now... Shoot.
What Anos told Albert was an event that happened thirty thousand years ago when the northern empires and kingdoms haven't developed much yet and the continent was filled with villages and one of those villages was a village of beast-folk who worshiped a God who used to protect them and in return they gave this God fruits and prayers or sometimes offered him wives from the royal families. The name of the God was Zumo and he was dedicated to protecting the beast-folk... Until one day when an offering went wrong when Zumo consumed one of the fruit and it turned out to have been poisoned by a poison strong enough to kill Gods and when Zumo asked that who did such thing, no one knew and the whole village was confused but Zumo got mad and took this as a sign of betrayal and then he cursed himself and the whole north by turning himself into an undead at his last breath when the poison finally ended him and because of that his authority over wind and gates went wild turning into the abnormal mana zone that went to be known as the Cursed Storm. Now the Zumo the undead God goes around destroying the north and the only thing that stops him is the blumond stone that is rare and hard to find.
Albert:.... You sure did your homework.
Anos: to tell you the truth, this was my wife's research, I'm not interested in history and stuff, I'm more of a science and alchemy guy, but when my wife represented this, the government destroyed her research and called her an evil witch and since I knew everything about my wife's research I was branded a mad scientist and they tried to throw me in jail.
Albert: but you were a genius who's work helped a lot of people. Why would the government throw away someone like you?
Anos: I don't know either, all I know is that the government is crazy and wants things to only go their way. That's why when you're an adventurer you're free as a bird since adventurers guilds are not associated with the government and are kinda their own thing.
Albert: so what now? Do we fight?
Anos: that won't be necessary cuz... Look down below us.
Albert: huh?... What?!
When Albert looked down at the center of the storm, every single Sun Spider dead on the ground and the only people left were Alex's group who were beginning to recover slowly and adapting to Zumo's mana.
Anos: you see Albert, your biggest mistake was thinking that I can only use my ability with my hands but I can also use it with my feet.
Albert: what?!
When Albert looked at the giant undead head which he was on top of, it was glowing yellow and it was No longer trying to resist the chain.
Anos: Checkmate!
