The gelatinous being wasn't supposed to land on this planet at all.
Its name was Glober, a member of a species called the Symbiotars—aliens that cannot survive alone for more than twelve hours without merging with a living host whose DNA is compatible.
Its mission had been simple: scout, then return.
But a minor malfunction in its ship altered its course… and dropped it onto a planet called Earth.
The ship crashed among the dense trees of a forest, and its door swung open before the smoke had even settled.
Glober surged out, a shimmering, gelatinous mass, moving with unnatural speed, while its internal life counter began to drop.
Time remaining to survive: 11 hours, 47 minutes.
"I need… a host. Immediately."
It slithered between the trees, sensing life around it, but the animals were too small, unsuitable, or incompatible.
With every passing minute, its body began to wither.
Then… it stopped.
Before a leaning tree lay the body of a teenage boy.
His body temperature was nearly zero, and his head bore clear signs of injury.
Glober analyzed the situation in fractions of a second.
"The organism died due to external interference. Humans call this: murder."
It felt no sorrow.
The Symbiotars did not comprehend death the way humans did… DNA compatibility was all that mattered.
And the boy?
He was an astonishingly perfect match.
"Selection accepted."
Glober merged with the body.
It opened its eyes.
The light was harsh, the vision limited—but this was normal, according to its data.
It moved its fingers slowly, then its hand, then its leg.
"Motor control… stable."
Immediately, it began repairing the damage:
reconstructing cells, closing wounds, reactivating vital functions.
Within minutes, the heart began to beat again.
Then… something unexpected happened.
Memories.
They flooded into its consciousness like a tidal wave:
school, classrooms, faces, mocking laughter…
pushes, insults, isolation.
The boy's name was Kurosaki Koichi.
A quiet child, physically weak, different…
enough to make him a target for bullying everywhere.
Glober froze.
"…Why do humans harm each other with no evolutionary benefit?"
It found no answer.
But something else formed inside…
a feeling it had never known.

I will restore balance."
It was neither sadness.

Glober rose steadily, melted into the shadows, and ran toward the distant city lights.
