Chapter 22 - Feren Fly

[ Appraisal Activated ]

[ Name : Feren Fly

Rank : Tier One

Level : 15 ]

Staring at the four feet large dark green fly, Arthur was forced to look at its level. His mind contemplated on whether he could battle the creature with six five foot long spiky limbs.

' A level fifteen similar to the Thermogat, there is something off about this ranking.' Arthur calmed his senses down, as he go ready to engage the creature. " Follow my lead and attack with when given the chance."

This battle was going to be one of the hardest for Arthur because, he wasn't only fighting the fly but his own fatigue. The atmosphere became brighter.

A factor which was happening just now, the sun had always been covered by the thick dark clouds. Arthur still watching the fly noticed it shift further away from the sunlight.

Rising to his fidgeting feet, Arthur turned his head to the people behind him."New update, avoid the sun's rays till I figure out what it does to humans."

With that he dropped his guns and dashed forward. His squad followed closely, however the abnormally huge fly stayed at the same spot. Hovering above the ground.

' Before the apocalypse what was a housefly capable of.' He reached the fly and threw a punch at it with his full strength. His aim, the fly's huge compound eyes.

Instantly the fly was a few meters behind them. 'It's fast and all seeing.' "Noah how long can you hold your speed ability." Arthur asked. "About 5 seconds before I would have to reactivate it." The boy replied.

Arthur dashed at it again, "You follow me and lead theain attack the rest, attack when you see an opening." With this words he and Noah morphed into blurs of supernatural speed.

They reached the fly in moments but were them showed another capability of the fly. At the last step to attack, the fly's proboscis swelled up and shot out a greenish liquid.

It wasn't aimed at the survivors but at the ground. Arthur had to hold Noah back as the ground melted like butter on a hot pan.

While that ground melted the fly vanished again, but now Arthur could see it as he was moving at almost the same speed. He advanced charging his fist with weapon augmentation.

He had to dispell the attack last moment as it momentarily ignored him and went for Noah. Its proboscis was placed on Noah's chest and Arthur knew what came next.

He tried changing direction while maintaining his mobility skill, as not to spend more mana. But he momentarily stopped, the skill was cancelled and his mama was gone.

Instinctively he activated it again and knocked Noah away form the fly before it would attack. He punched it but missed by a few centimeters. Stumbling forward, the fly slashed at his back with its spiked limbs.

Arthur fell to the ground his back growing a bit numb. The fly stabbed another limb at him but he evaded, grabbed the limb and punched the fly straight in its underpart.

Although the fly's skin was soft, it bounced Arthur's ordinary punch back. He tried to punch again but he was lifted to the air by the limb he held and was bashed into the wall.

While the fly concentrated on Arthur, his squad closed in for an attack. Tamsin shot at it once she was close enough to hit it at point blank range. However all was futile as the fly dodged all of ten bullets.

Caleb launched a metal pipe with all his might, but it redirected the pipe with one of its long limbs. Noah was the only one who went close enough for a closer attack.

However before he could even lift his wooden plank, the fly stabbed him into the shoulder and sent flying him into one of the classes.

That alone had made sure Noah wouldn't be re-entering the fight. Augmenting his fists, Arthur held tightly onto the limb and pushed himself off the wall; closer to the fly.

Once again his attack missed entirely and he was thrown above the fly, at his squad. Arthur tumbled to the ground and flipping to a knee right before he would reach Tamsin and Caleb.

"Running to the third floor and wait for me, if I don't return, don't." Arthur ordered preparing to fight at full force, especially now he understood the capabilities of the Feren Fly.

Watching the fly slowly approach, Arthur got irritated with why they were still here. "Do you think you can beat that thing, I could even be the one to kill you. Leave me and go."

"Well we aren't here for you, we are here for Noah, common bro we can't leave him bleeding out." Tamsin said boldly pressing his shoulder. Without looking he shrugged it of.

"You know what, do as you please." In a moments notice he was approaching the fly, leaving his squad with a subtle whirlwind. Before reaching his opponent, Arthur began punching the air.

Wasteful at first, deadly moments later.

Releasing a barrage of telepathic strikes, the fly was overwhelmed for the first time since the battle began. It quickly flew to the end of the balcony and turned to the next, escaping the blasts.

' That's not the only thing I have up my sleeve.' With the strike leaving multiple damages to the floor, walls and ceiling.

While still running, Arthur levitated the dislodged fragments of concrete and tiles before firing them at the fly. Moreover Arthur turned his his for a moment, to witness something equally as important as this battle.

Due to the fragments being numerous, and some even being exceptionally large. Some few into the sunlight and were instantly incinerated.

As this distracted Arthur for a moment, he turned to witness a swelled proboscis aimed at him. He stood in the same balcony, so its attack was a sure hit.

Retracting most of the fragments which hadn't reached the fly, his force barrier created a shield before it could release its most terrifying attack.

When the attack came, it carried so much force which flung Arthur backwards. His body destroyed the door of the ending class, yet he didn't stop till he hit the wall of the class and fell to his face.

'I should seriously add more points to durability.' Coughing up blood, Arthur felt his belly turn as he rose to a knee.

[ Fatigue: 70% ]

Official unable to fight, Arthur prepared he finally trump card. He outstretched his right palm and locked eyes with the unmoving Feren Fly.

The temperature above his hand began heating up, then sparks appeared as his palm became as red as hot iron. From those sparks a floating flame was born.

A flame which Arthur compressed into a formless ball. He kept feeding it mana, increasing it's size and his fatigue. Although he couldn't see due to the size of his growing fire ball, the fly slightly tilted its head.

It looked at the balcony opposite it and surged towards Arthur. Before it could cross the door post of the class, it was engulfed in flames.

[ Fatigue: 99% ]

[ MP: 0.0 ]

[HP: 20 ]

Arthur collapsed to the wall, the last thing he saw before his blackout was the Feren Fly's silhouette hovering unmovingly amidst the flames.
