Chapter 24 - Truth Unraveled

" Now, while I am at my strongest." Arthur said checking his fatigue which was practically empty. " Something big is happening and we have to escape before it does."

David chuckled lightly acknowledging what Arthur just said. "Some big like 95 tier 2 awakened zombies on the fourth floor." Don't…" Interrupting Caleb screamed, "Tier 2!!! 95!!!"

Even Arthur was shocked by what David had said, but he kept a still face. " Wait a moment, a tier one monster fly nearly claimed our lives some hours ago. Now you are saying that there are not one, not two but ninety five tier two zombies above us. Tamsin exclaimed.

" Don't you see the smile on his face, he is joking." Noah added disbelievingly then David asked a question. " Why are you still alive after walking into this death zone."

The squad paused for a moment to think, Arthur looked into David's eyes and replayed. "Because you battled the first awakened zombies."

The former head boy nodded, " You see, when a person fails to complete their walkthrough, they die and fade into particles of energy. They complete the awakening, good job they had become one of the few humans guaranteed to survive.

However if for any reason they are bitten while still in their walkthrough or about to complete it. They rise as an awakened zombie."

Tamsin gasped and David continued talking. " The first person to be thrown in to the middle school was a junior, the same boy you beat moments before this apocalypse began."

A glance was thrown at Arthur who returned it. "After he suddenly lost consciousness and was disposed, a few hours passed before others began developing the symptoms of awakening.

When they were thrown in, the junior's body couldn't be found. No one paid attention to that…, a mistake that would cost us hell in the coming minutes.

All I knew was, I woke up in the middle school after helping the principal dispose some bodies. I was surprised, and quite shocked, but those feelings were dwarfed by the fact of a zombie which was feasting on other disposed bodies.

I stayed completely silent, even ignoring my system prompts, all until. A few others awoke, twelve at that time. While they were still unaware of what was happening. Someone groaned so loudly the zombie noticed us.

You should have see the horror on my face when I saw the same boy, I stopped you from beating staring into the depths of my soul with his grey eyes." David sighed. " I was lucky it didn't come for me first as it's speed was instant.

Five girls died immediately from the screams they made, truth be told if Blessed hadn't realized her Bullet Time ability we would have all been dead."

Looking at his cohort, " All seven of us had to figure out what our abilities were else we would all die. Mark's superhuman enhancement also helped him distract the zombie from us. The bias battle slowly tilted to our favour as they all realized there abilities.

Yet that wasn't enough.

I was the last person left, my ability would determine whether we lived or died. But I was unsure if I had any, so the battle dragged on. Our opponent was just too strong.

Its speed was instant, its strength unmatched, durability impenetrable. I watched from the sidelines as everyone were soon beaten to the brink of death.

I being the last man standing wasn't given an instant death, yet I was thrown through the headmistress's office and into the courtyard.

It was then I realized my abilities through a title. The zombie followed me out on into the courtyard and we fought till I won. Not by sheer strength or intelligence, but by mastering my Astral Rain ability." David said concluding his story.

' So he and Blessed abilities are Astral Rain and Bullet Time.' Arthur coughed, " So apart from that is there any other thing you know about tier two zombies or zombies in general?"

This time it was Mark who replied, " Tier two's can use an ability and all zombies are practically immortal." Everyone turned to the curly haired boy.

" You say they are what!!!" David exclaimed, "It is a possibility." Arthur said looking at his squad. "While we were here we killed some children zombies. When we were done clearing the zombie in the second floor, I looked down to the courtyard and found the bodies missing."

" Wait you all fought zombies, we cleared them out completely after battling the first awakened zombie. The children zombies of the courtyard died during our fight." David said in utter awe.

"I noticed the same thing too." Mark said immediately after Arthur, "I saw the zombie you killed climb up to the four floor through the pillars. At first I thought I was just hallucinating but then I saw it reoccur with other zombies."

"And why didn't you tell us." Eli said grabbing the boy's arm. "Had it been I was wrong you'd have all laughed at me. Also I wanted to wait for someone to be a second witness. " He defended.

David sighed deeply pinching the bridge of his nose as he shook his head. " Here I thought this apocalypse couldn't get any worst. The sun burns, monsters evolve now zombies are immortal? Fuck me sideways, I am growing more paranoid each day."

The group hung in silence as they absorbed the stated facts. Minutes passed before Mary spoke up. " Well it doesn't…" A huge bang on the door disrupted her.

Everyone grew still watching the door and hoping that what ever made that sounds just left them alone. Unfortunately the second bang came and the door cracked.

The barricade was slowly coming undone with chairs and desks falling noisily.

"There lots of them." Jonah said removing his had which was pressed against his temple. Arthur rose and pointed to the door, he was about to activate force manipulation to press against the door.

However.
