The chamber fell silent.
The broken guardian lay scattered across the stone floor—its armor cracked, its core dimming slowly like a dying star.
Aren stood still.
His hand remained raised where he had bent the attack.
But something was different now.
The air around him felt… organized.
Every movement had direction. Every vibration in the chamber carried weight and shape. It was like suddenly seeing the skeleton of reality itself.
He lowered his hand slowly.
"Vector Break…" he murmured.
The ancient system responded instantly.
Trial Phase One: Completed
Candidate Stability: Abnormal
System Compatibility: Increasing
Above him, the sealed chamber reopened with a deep grinding sound.
Light poured down.
Cael's voice echoed from above.
"Aren! Come back up!"
Aren jumped, catching the edge of the opening with one hand and pulling himself upward. His body felt lighter—balanced in ways he didn't fully understand yet.
When he climbed back into the chamber, Cael was staring at him like someone looking at a myth walking out of a grave.
"You passed," Cael said quietly.
Aren brushed stone dust off his shoulder.
"That thing wasn't trying to kill me."
Cael shook his head.
"No."
"It was trying to see if you deserved to exist."
Aren looked down at his wrist.
The fracture mark had changed again.
Thin silver lines now spread outward from it like roots growing beneath his skin.
The ancient system spoke one final time.
Trial One Complete
Authority Potential: Candidate Detected
Then the chamber went dark.
The symbols faded.
The ancient system fell silent again.
Cael exhaled slowly.
"That's bad."
Aren looked at him.
"You don't sound surprised."
"I'm not."
Cael walked toward the sealed tunnel.
"Because now January knows exactly where you are."
