Silas's POV
The call from Mateo came roughly thirty minutes ago. The instant I heard Bella was alive, something loosened in my chest that had been strangling me since this nightmare started. Jack remained silent in the seat next to me, his fingers drumming a nervous rhythm against his thigh. His hand shook every few seconds, and he kept checking the window like maybe he could will her into view through sheer determination. I recognized that terror. His woman had thrown herself into danger to help a friend, only to wind up trapped when she should have been running to freedom. The weight of that responsibility was carved into every line of his face.
As for me?
