Chapter 13 - THE SHOCKING TRUTH

Ah-Rim's heart was racing as she looked through the confidential file. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. It was a plan to sabotage Cha Industries from the inside. And Park was behind it.

She felt a surge of anger and betrayal. How could Park do this to Do-Hyun and his family? They had trusted him, and he was repaying that trust by trying to destroy their company.

Ah-Rim knew she had to tell Do-Hyun about this right away. She quickly closed the file and left Park's office, making sure to cover her tracks so he wouldn't know she had been there.

She went straight to Do-Hyun's office and burst in without knocking.

Do-Hyun looked up from his computer, startled.

Ah-Rim, what's wrong? he asked.

Ah-Rim took a deep breath and tried to calm down.

I found something, she said. Something big.

Do-Hyun's expression changed from surprise to concern.

What is it? he asked.

Ah-Rim hesitated, unsure of how to break the news.

It's Park, she said finally. He's trying to sabotage the company.

Do-Hyun's eyes widened in shock.

What? he said. That's impossible.

Ah-Rim shook her head.

I saw the files, she said. He's been planning this for a while.

Do-Hyun looked stunned. He didn't know what to say.

We have to do something, Ah-Rim said. We have to stop him before it's too late.

Do-Hyun nodded, finally finding his voice.

You're right, he said. We'll call a meeting with the board of directors and confront him.

Ah-Rim nodded, feeling a sense of relief. Finally, Do-Hyun believed her.

The meeting was called for the next day, and Ah-Rim spent the rest of the evening preparing for it. She gathered all the evidence she had found and made copies of the files.

The next day, the board of directors gathered in the conference room. Park was there, looking smug and confident. Ah-Rim and Do-Hyun were there too, ready to confront him.

Do-Hyun stood up and began to speak.

Thank you all for coming, he said. We have a serious matter to discuss.

The board members looked at him curiously, wondering what was going on.

As you all know, we recently hired a new employee named Park, Do-Hyun continued. But what you don't know is that he's been trying to sabotage our company from the inside.

The board members gasped in shock, and Park's expression changed from smug to angry.

That's a lie, he said. I don't know what you're talking about.

Do-Hyun pulled out the files that Ah-Rim had found and handed them to the board members.

These are the plans that Park had to sabotage our company, he said. Ah-Rim found them in his office.

The board members looked through the files, their expressions changing from shock to outrage.

How could you do this, Park? one of them asked. We trusted you.

Park's face was red with anger and embarrassment.

I...I can explain, he stuttered.

But before he could say anything else, Ah-Rim spoke up.

There's no explanation for this, she said. You were hired to help us, but instead you tried to destroy us.

The board members nodded in agreement, and one of them stood up.

We need to take action, he said. We need to fire Park and make sure he can never work in this industry again.

The other board members nodded in agreement, and Do-Hyun turned to Park.

You're fired, he said. Get out of my sight.

Park's face was twisted with anger and hatred as he stood up and left the room. Ah-Rim felt a sense of relief wash over her. They had stopped him before he could do any more damage.

But as she was about to leave the room, she heard a noise behind her. She turned to see Park standing in the doorway, a gun in his hand.

You'll never get away with this, he said, his voice cold and menacing. I'll make sure you all pay for what you've done to me.

Ah-Rim felt a surge of fear as Park raised the gun and pointed it at her. She tried to move, but her feet were frozen in place.

Do-Hyun, she whispered, her voice shaking with fear.

But before Do-Hyun could do anything, Park pulled the trigger...

Everything seemed to happen in slow motion. Ah-Rim saw the gun go off, and she felt a searing pain in her arm.

She heard Do-Hyun's voice, but it sounded far away. She tried to look at him, but her vision was blurry.

Do-Hyun rushed to her side and caught her as she fell.

Ah-Rim! he shouted. Ah-Rim, stay with me!

Ah-Rim tried to speak, but she couldn't. She felt a warm sensation flowing through her body, and she knew she was bleeding.

The next thing she knew, she was in a hospital bed, surrounded by beeping machines and sterile white walls.

She tried to sit up, but a sharp pain in her arm stopped her.

What...what happened? she asked, her voice weak.

Do-Hyun was sitting in a chair next to her bed, his eyes red from lack of sleep.

You were shot, he said. Park tried to kill you.

Ah-Rim's eyes widened as she remembered the events leading up to the shooting.

Is he...is he in jail? she asked.

Do-Hyun nodded.

Yes, he's in jail, he said. The police caught him as he was trying to escape.

Ah-Rim felt a sense of relief wash over her. It was over. Park was finally behind bars where he belonged.

But then she remembered something else.

My sister, she said, trying to sit up again. Is she okay?

Do-Hyun gently pushed her back down onto the bed.

She's fine, he said. She's been worried sick about you, but she's okay.

Ah-Rim felt a wave of relief wash over her. At least her sister was safe.

As she lay there, she realized that she owed her life to Do-Hyun. If he hadn't been there to catch her, she might have bled to death on the floor.

Do-Hyun, she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Thank you for saving my life.

Do-Hyun smiled and took her hand in his.

I'll always be there to protect you, Ah-Rim, he said. I love you.

Ah-Rim's heart skipped a beat. She had been hoping he would say that for a long time.

I love you too, she said, smiling up at him.

As she drifted off to sleep, Ah-Rim knew that everything was going to be okay. She had Do-Hyun by her side, and she was safe.
