Chapter 1 - The Bond Beyond Age

He slowed down his bicycle when he went by the playground.

His eyes stayed on the girl he could not look away, from her the girl he had seen.

The little girl went really high on the swing. She went back and forth.

She had pigtails. They were flying behind her. The little girl was holding the chains of the swing, with her hands.

Her grandmother was sitting close by she had a smile, on her face the grandmothers eyes were always looking at the childs face.

Sebastian, eleven years old, slowed to a halt.

Something in the playground had caught his eye....

He climbed off, letting the bicycle rest against the curb, and began walking toward the swings.

The little girl, sensing someone approaching, instinctively stepped behind her grandmother, seeking the safety of her presence.

"Hello." The word slipped out before Sebastian could overthink it.

He stood rooted in front of them, a smile softening his face as the little girl tilted her head, pigtails catching the light.

"Say hello,to him...dear..." her grandmother encouraged.

She peeked out from behind her grandmother, her big eyes shyly meeting Sebastian's.

"H...Hello." she whispered softly.

Sebastian crouched and picked up a small chain bracelet from the ground before holding it out to her.

"Here.." he said softly. "I think this is yours."

Startled, she raised her head, her eyes catching the fallen object.

Stepping out from behind her grandmother, she looked at his hand and realized the bracelet was hers—she hadn't even noticed when it slipped off.

"Thank you.." she said, taking it from him.

"You're welcome. By the way, I'm Sebastian. Nice to meet you." He smiled warmly.

"I'm Amelia."

Looking straight into his eyes, she hesitated for a moment before speaking.

"W-w-will y-you b-be my f-friend then?" she stammered, her voice soft and trembling with hope.

She moved a little closer to him waiting to hear what he had to say.

She really wanted to know his answer to this question so she was waiting for him to tell her what was on his mind, about this thing his answer.

"Hmm..."

Amelia squealed with delight, bouncing up and down.

"Grandma, look! I made a new friend!"Her grandmother's eyes twinkled as she glanced at her granddaughter,"Yes,my dear..."

From then on, Sebastian and Minnie—though he quickly began calling her Minnie just like her grandma—became the closest of friends.

The more time Sebastian spent with Minnie, the more he understood the depth of her past.

Bereft of her parents from early childhood, she had been nurtured ever since by her grandmother's boundless love and loyalty.

She was very lucky to have such a grandmother who loved her so much.

Despite being four years apart in age, Sebastian and Minnie both understood each other remarkably well, and their bond grew closer every day.

From the very start, Sebastian's mother treated Minnie like family.

She treated Minnie like she was part of the family and made Minnie feel very welcome and loved, like one of her own children.

Sebastian's mother really liked Minnie.

The Thompsons parlayed their global enterprise into an enormous family fortune.

The mansion was a symphony of modern extravagance and old-world elegance.

Galleries bathed in dynamic lighting that caressed priceless artworks, and a palatial master suite—expansive beyond most estates—boasting a heated infinity plunge pool with underwater LED glow, a rain-forest shower in imported onyx, and a sweeping terrace of polished travertine overlooking infinity-edge fountains and lush, night-blooming gardens.

With the Thompsons fortune resting in his future, Sebastian's parents focused every effort on preparing him for the responsibilities that would one day be his.

She knew that her friendship with him was always there ...they were always standing side by side through the times and the bad times of growing up through all the happy moments and the tough moments.

Her friendship with him was a constant it was something that she could always count on her friendship, with him was something that made her feel safe....
