Chapter 3 - Chapter Three — Mana

On April 26, 1986, an explosion occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. It was so powerful that the city of Pripyat effectively ceased to exist as a city. What remained was a massive crater. At first, people believed the cause was a nuclear accident. However, the scale of destruction surpassed anything that had ever happened on Earth.

This became the first factor.

The second factor was the Large Hadron Collider, located at CERN on the border of Switzerland and France. On June 9, 2013, particles spiraled out of control, triggering a massive energy discharge whose consequences were felt across the entire world. Casualties numbered in the millions.

Earthquakes reaching magnitudes of nine.Tsunamis along ocean coastlines.Category-five tornadoes erasing entire cities.Snowfall in Africa.Viruses undergoing accelerated evolution.

This became the new reality.

The following four years became a time of survival and adaptation. Despite the global chaos, humanity learned to adjust to the new conditions.

It was during this period that research into anomalous forms of energy and methods of controlling them began. Japanese scientists proposed the term "Mana"—a conditional designation for an unknown force that could be localized and utilized. In China, for convenience, it came to be called Qi.

The international community signed a cooperation agreement involving 143 countries. Specialized military academies began opening across the world for the exceptionally gifted—those capable of controlling Mana.

On December 13, 2019, allied nations made one of the most controversial decisions in human history. The idea was first proposed by Tesla and was adopted through an international treaty.

Every human being was implanted with a chip containing a system that displayed physical parameters, class, and skills. The chip existed in everyone, but the system itself was visible only to those who had awakened Mana. For everyone else, it remained an invisible and useless implant.

A full day had passed since my awakening.

I hadn't slept, drowning myself in streams of information—from news reports, archives, and forums.

The events of my novel began in 2019 and ended in 2024.I had awakened in 2025—one year after the finale.

From the news, it became clear: I was inside my own novel, already past the end of all the events I had written. And since I was a citizen of the United States, I was required to report the appearance of a system window to the Organization of the Awakened.

I decided to do it in three days.First, I needed to get my thoughts straight.

I looked at the status window again.

Strength — 9.Endurance — 10.Agility — 8.

Average stats for a normal person who trained regularly. No class—those were assigned through the Organization of the Awakened. Talent and skills were still unknown; special testing programs existed for identifying them within the same organization. Mana, according to available information, manifested over time.

The entire world I had just studied—through the internet, archives, and memories from the novel—

I was inside my own fucking story.

I sat there, staring at the lines floating before my eyes, slowly realizing exactly what kind of shit I had fallen into.
