Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: The Diplomat of Bones

The morning after the 'Vulture' bombers were devoured, Busan felt different. The air was thick with the scent of salt and the heavy, metallic tang of the shadow-sea that still lingered in the harbor. The Association's satellites were blind; a shroud of gray mist had settled over the city, a literal fog of war generated by Kang-woo's expanded domain.

Inside the 'Crow's Nest,' the atmosphere was electric. The leaders of the Seven Hells were no longer sitting—they were standing, waiting for the man who had turned the Association's ultimate weapons into scrap.

"The Association has officially declared Busan a 'Calamity Zone'," Madame Blood reported, her eyes flickering with a mix of excitement and nerves. "They've cut off the land routes, but they're too scared to enter. They're calling for an emergency UN session."

"Let them talk," Kang-woo said, sitting at the head of the table. He was focused on the system prompt hovering in his vision.

"Yeon-hee," Kang-woo called out.

"I feel it," she replied, her paper-sleeve rustling. "Something is bypassing the shadow-sea. It's not attacking... it's visiting."

A sudden chill swept through the room, one that made even the S-rank Madame Blood shiver. The floor in the center of the hall didn't crack; it simply turned into a pool of white, calcified dust. From the dust, a figure rose—a tall, spindly creature clad in a robe made of bleached parchment. Its head was a polished human skull with three eye-sockets, each glowing with a steady, violet flame.

The guards raised their weapons, but Kang-woo held up a hand. "Wait."

The creature didn't move. It bowed low, its skeletal joints clicking like a clock.

"SOVEREIGN OF THE SHATTERED THRONE," the creature spoke, its voice sounding like dry leaves skittering over a tombstone. "I BRING GREETINGS FROM THE GREAT PALE KING, THE SECOND AUDITOR."

"The Second Auditor?" Kang-woo narrowed his eyes. "The one I defeated was a projection. Who is this one?"

"THAT WAS A HARVESTER. A PEASANT," the Diplomat hissed. "THE PALE KING IS THE STEWARD OF THE DEBT. HE DOES NOT SEEK YOUR DEATH. HE SEEKS A PARTNERSHIP."

The creature reached into its robe and pulled out a box made of blackened silver. It opened it to reveal a pulsating, golden heart—not a monster's heart, but the Mana Core of a Hero.

"THE ASSOCIATION IS WEAK. THEY HOARD THE MANA OF THIS WORLD WHILE YOUR POTENTIAL IS STIFLED," the Diplomat continued. "THE PALE KING OFFERS YOU THE 'RECOGNITION OF SOVEREIGNTY'. JOIN THE ABYSSAL ACCORD. IN EXCHANGE, BUSAN SHALL BE SPARED FROM THE HARVEST."

The leaders of the Seven Hells leaned in, their greed ignited. To them, this was the ultimate deal: recognition from a god-like entity and a guarantee of survival.

"And the price?" Kang-woo asked.

"SIMPLE. YOU MUST HAND OVER THE INVESTIGATOR, HAN SEOL-AH. HER SOUL CONTAINS THE PARADOX INK THAT BELONGS TO THE ABYSS."

The room went deathly silent. Kang-woo's silver eyes turned into cold slits of metallic light. The 'Crown' on his chest didn't just pulse; it began to leak black smoke.

"The Pale King has a poor sense of trade," Kang-woo said, his voice dropping an octave, vibrating with the authority of the Abyss.

"I didn't take the Throne to follow someone else's 'Accord'."

Kang-woo stood up, and the shadow of the Knight-Commander erupted from the floor behind him, its spear-tip stopping inches from the Diplomat's middle eye.

"Tell your King," Kang-woo whispered, "that I don't negotiate for my property. And Seol-ah is not a trade item. She is the Creditor."

"THEN YOU CHOOSE WAR WITH THE SECOND AUDITOR?" the Diplomat's violet eyes flared. "THIS WORLD CANNOT WITHSTAND TWO KINGS CLASHING."

"Then I'll just have to make sure I'm the only one left standing," Kang-woo replied.

He didn't kill the messenger. He grabbed the silver box—the golden Mana Core—and crushed it in his bare hand. The energy didn't dissipate; it was forcibly sucked into his tattoo.

"Get out," Kang-woo commanded. "Before I decide to audit your soul for the trespass."

The Diplomat of Bones hissed, its form dissolving back into white dust. "THE PALE MARCH BEGINS AT SUNSET. BUSAN WILL BE THE FIRST TO BLEED."

The creature vanished.

Kang-woo turned to the room. The leaders of the Seven Hells looked terrified. They had seen him defy the Association, but defying a King of the Abyss was another matter entirely.

"Madame Blood," Kang-woo said, his eyes glowing. "The Association will try to use the Pale March as an excuse to invade from the north while the Abyss attacks from the harbor. They're going to squeeze us."

"What's the plan?" she asked, her voice trembling.

"We don't wait for sunset," Kang-woo said, looking at the Knight-Commander, who was now pulsating with the golden energy of the crushed core. "We're going to Seoul. If the Pale King wants a war, I'm going to give it to him in the center of the Association's backyard."
