Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: The Silver Ledger

The blackened longbow, forged from the very key that opened the gates of the Abyss, didn't feel like a weapon in Seol-ah's hands. It felt like a pen. A pen meant to cross out names from the book of the living.

"I can see them," Seol-ah whispered, her silver eyes scanning the skeletal Citadel hovering over Gangnam. "I can see the threads of their mana. It's all... unpaid interest."

The Pale King's Executioner, recovering from the initial shock, let out a guttural roar. His broken staff reformed into a jagged scythe of bone. "MORTAL FOOLS! YOU DARE DEFY THE AUDIT?"

The Executioner lunged, his scythe carving a rift in reality itself. But he never reached them.

Kang-woo stepped forward, his liquid-ink armor hardening into a shield of pure paradox. The scythe struck the shield and stopped. Not because of physical resistance, but because Kang-woo had 'audited' the kinetic energy of the swing out of existence.

"Your time is up," Kang-woo said. "Seol-ah. Now."

Seol-ah pulled the string of the black bow. She didn't have an arrow. She didn't need one. She drew the silver mana that had been circulating through the city's hijacked grid—the energy the Association had stolen from her—and condensed it into a single, needle-thin bolt of light.

She released the string.

The bolt didn't fly through the air; it traveled through the connections. It struck the Executioner, and instead of piercing his chest, it turned his entire skeletal structure into a conductor. The silver light erupted from his three eye-sockets, incinerating his soul from the inside out.

"THIS... IS NOT... THE AGREEMENT..." the Executioner's final words dissolved into ash.

But the arrow didn't stop there.

It curved upward, splitting into ten thousand smaller streaks of silver lightning. Each streak found a 'Parchment Thrall' in the streets of Seoul. In a single heartbeat, the legion of the Pale King was wiped clean from the city. The skeletal towers in Gangnam began to crumble into white dust, falling like snow over the bewildered citizens.

The Paladins who were still conscious lay on the plaza floor, watching as their 'Goddess' stood amidst the ruins of their treachery.

"Is it over?" Seol-ah asked, her breath coming in ragged gasps as the bow dissolved back into Kang-woo's shadow.

"For the Pale King? For now," Kang-woo said, looking at the retreating violet clouds. "But we still have to settle the bill with the landlord."

He turned his gaze toward the Blue House. The sirens were still wailing, but the 'Goddess Protocol' was dead. The Association was blind, deaf, and stripped of its primary power source.

Suddenly, the plaza's large electronic billboard flickered to life. It wasn't a news report. It was a live feed of Director Kim, sitting in his bunker. His face was twisted with a manic, desperate smile.

"You think you've won?" Kim laughed, the sound echoing through the empty plaza. "You've just proven to the world that you're a threat that cannot be reasoned with. Look behind you, Kang-woo. Look at the horizon."

Kang-woo turned.

Beyond the city limits, five massive silhouettes were approaching. They weren't monsters. They were World-Ranked Hunters, the 'Sovereign Slayers'—mercenaries hired by the International Hunter Bureau (IHB) to neutralize 'System Anomalies.'

"The IHB has sanctioned your execution," Kim said. "The 'Global Audit' has begun. You're not just a criminal in Korea anymore. You're the enemy of the world."

Kang-woo looked at the five figures, each a legendary name that had cleared 'God-Rank' gates across the globe.

"Enemy of the world?" Kang-woo repeated, his silver eyes flashing with a dangerous, amused light. He gripped Seol-ah's hand.

"I've been dead for ten years, Kim. Being the world's enemy is a promotion."

He looked at Seol-ah. "Can you run a little further?"

"As long as you're holding the lead," she replied.
