The carriage pulled up to a quiet street a few blocks removed from the bustling city. Kurt stepped out, gazing up at the building in front of him.
"Here you are, Master Rossana," the driver called out, checking the slip of parchment. "It says here; Apartment 302, third floor."
"Thanks. Hopefully I won't be gone long."
The apartment complex was ironically simple – a standard, slightly worn complex. A far cry from the opulent multi-storied building of the hotel where Darwin worked as a front deskman.
Kurt headed up the narrow exterior stairwell until he reached the third floor where he walked down the stone-cold corridor, stopping outside door 302.
'Alright, buddy. Fingers crossed you're inside.'
Knock. Knock. Knock.
"......"
Nothing.
He silently waited while scanning the quiet hallway, over the railings, and the other closed doors. Two minutes passed without a single sound from inside. He knocked again, firmer this time.
Still nothing.
