Chapter 5 - 1. Aakash

Rains!!!❤️

The vast, infinite blue turns to dark. The dark clouds gather and weep tears of silver, which quench the thirst of the earth. The droplets fall, delicately fine, and fill the hearts with immense joy. The fragrant aroma of wet mud signifies new beginnings.

....

Author's POV

The alarm beeps, shattering all peaceful dreams and signalling the rise of one of the softest mornings ever. It read 6:00. The city below was still rousing, its streetlights blurring into soft, hazy halos in the pre-dawn gloom.

Aakash woke up groggily and slipped through the curtains to be confronted by the pattern on his window. He stood still for a moment, listening to the world outside. There was a small smile on his face.

His trance broke when a message pinged on his phone. He ran his hand through his hair and stretched his body. He went to his closet, changed into track pants, and left his room. He saw his mother sitting on the couch, scrolling through some recipes on Instagram. She had a habit of sleeping in and getting up early, just like him.

"Good morning, Maa", he said, smiling a little. He placed his head on her lap and lay down on the couch.

"Good morning, Aakash. Slept well?" she asked, keeping her hand on her forehead, to which he nodded a little.

He might be a cold and grumpy person to the rest of the world, but when it comes to his mother, he turns into the sweetest person ever.

"Aakash yeh kya, bahar itni baarish gir rahi hai aur to gym jaa raha hai." She asked.

("Aakash, what is this? It's raining so heavily outside, and you're going to the gym.")

"Aapko toh pata hi hai, bina gym aur exercises ke mera din accha nahi jayega." Saying this, he got up and left for the gym before his mother stopped him. She smiled, as she knew that it was his habit. Without the gym, his day was incomplete.

("You know that my day won't go well without the gym and exercises.")

An hour later, Aakash came home from the gym and directly went to his room.

He had a warm shower and came out of his room, ready for the day. He wore a white shirt, black pants, a black blazer, a black tie with white crosshatches, and a watch on his wrist. His hair was nicely gelled up. He looked perfect. He glanced at the mirror one last time and left his room.

Seeing her son ready, his mother, Meera, squinted her eyes.

"Aakash, bahar itni bhari baarish gir rahi hain. Mein tujhe kahi jane nahi dungi.''

("Aakash, it is raining heavily outside. I won't let you go anywhere.")

''But maa-''

"Tu bahar gaya aur beemar pad gaya toh. Tu aaj office nahi jayega. And no ifs and buts.", she asked in a worried tone.

("You will go outside and fall ill. You will not go to the office today.")

"Maa mujhe jana padega. Aaj committee member aa rahe hai hamara project review karne ke liye aur kisi tarah ki causalities na ho isliye mujhe jana padega." he tried to convince his mother as it was a big day for him.

("Mom, I must go. Today, the committee members are coming to review our project, and I have to go to avoid any casualties.")

It seemed like his mother was not in the mood to listen to him today. But he was adamant that he had to go to his office.

After a lot of convincing and buttering, his mother finally agreed.

"Theek hai", she sighed and continued, "par koshish kar ki tu andhera hone se pehele ghar aa jaye."

("Ok", "But try to get home before it gets dark.")

"Ok, maa, I promise."

He kissed her forehead, took his lunchbox, and left for his office.

Aakash' POV

I left for the office in my car. The car ran along the roads, mixed with the not-so-small patter of the rain.

My car stopped in front of the DR industries. I parked my car and went inside.

"I need everything to be perfect; the committee will be here to review our project in 30 mins. Got it", I instructed my team in a cold voice and a stoic face.

I went to the pantry and returned with a cup of coffee.

"Sir, everything is ready. Can you once go through the documents to see if they are fine?" Aman, my team member, responded.

I checked the documents; they were perfect, just the way I wanted them to be.

Author's POV

The review committee came and analysed their project. They were very impressed with the project. They congratulated Aakash and his team for their wonderful performance.

Aakash came to the office canteen to have his lunch. He had just sat down to have his lunch when he noticed a group of girls who had been staring at him since he entered the canteen.

Due to his cold demeanour, which he maintains in office, the female employees find it difficult to interact with him.

"Annoying," he thought and looked at them, they smiled, seeing him looking at them.

This is a normal thing for him. He just rolled his eyes and ignored them royally. He had his lunch and again went back to work.

It was 6 in the evening, Aakash stood up from his chair and decided to head home. He looked out of the window. It was still raining. He had promised his mom that he would come home early. He left his cabin and went to the parking area. He started the car and left for home.

He reached home after one hour. It took longer as he was stuck in traffic due to rain. He came early today because of the rain, as his mother instructed him. He usually came home at 8. As he entered his home, he saw her mother, who was sitting on the couch, watching a romantic comedy movie and chopping vegetables for dinner.

She saw him with a soft smile. "Kaisa tha aaj ka din?" she asked him, to which he responded, "Accha tha maa, aur apka?" She nodded.

("How was your day?", "It was good, Maa, and yours?")

He went to his room, freshened up, and changed into comfortable wear. He came back to the living room. The mother-son duo enjoyed their time watching movies. Then, he helped her mother prepare dinner. While they were having their dinner. Her mother asked him a question.

"Aakash tujhe nahi lagta mein akeli reheti hu ghar par, tere office jane ke baad?", she asked, to which he looked at her and thought 'Aaj inhe kya hogaya aise kyu puch rahi hai yeh?'.

("Aakash, don't you think I stay alone at home after you go to the office?", 'What happened to her today? Why is she asking like this?')

"Haa, par aap puch kyu rahi hai yeh?", he asked in a confused manner.

("Yes, but why are you asking this?")

'Hai Bhagwan, iss ladke ka kya karoon mein' she thought to herself.

('Oh God, what should I do with this boy?')

"Mein kehe rahi hu ki tu bhi akela mehesoos karta hai na?", she asked with a bit of expectation.

("I am saying that you also feel lonely, right?")

"Mein kaha akela hu, aap ho na mere saath." Her expectations broke after he gave a blank answer.

("I am not alone; you are with me.")

"Aree khoteya, mein teri shaadi ki baath kar rahi hu. Kabhi shaadi ke bare mein socha hai tune iss bare mein ?"

("Hey idiot, I am talking about your marriage. Have you ever thought about this?")

After hearing his mother's words, he choked on his food.

"Kab sochega, tujhe kaam se fursat mile tab na.", she said blankly, passing a glass of water to him.

("When will you think, only when you get free time from work? ")

"Karunga, par abhi nahi."

("I will do it, but not right now.")

"Beta, ab tu 26 saal ka hain kab karega shaadi, budha ho jane ke baad?", she said.

("Son, now you are 26 years old, when will you get married, after becoming old?")

"Maa, karunga par ab nahi, please, can we leave this topic?" he said, getting up from the dining table to keep the plate and wash his hands. Before his mother could say anything else, he returned to his room.

("Mom, I will do it, but not now, please, can we leave this topic? ")

"Hey Bhagwan, iss ladke ka kya hoga?", thinking this, she too got up from the table and returned to her room.

("Oh God, what will happen to this boy?")

There had been many times when she had asked the same questions, but he always delayed the topic so that he could get rid of it. He had no issues with getting married, but he thinks that it is difficult to find true love in today's world. He feels that love today is materialistic. He needed someone who could understand him and take care of his mother when he is not at home.

Thinking this, he lay on the bed, closed his eyes, and let the tiredness of the day surround him.
