Izack lowered his head, a faint smile forming on his lips despite the heaviness in his chest.
"Compared to him…" he whispered quietly. "I'm nothing in your life."
Silence settled between the two men.
Only the sound of raindrops striking the wet pavement echoed around them while the cold wind carried the scent of approaching winter.
Neither of them spoke. Neither of them knew what could possibly be said after a confession that had already been rejected without a single direct answer.
"I didn't confess because I expected you to love me back," Izack admitted after a long while, his voice barely louder than the rain itself. Every word left his lips slowly, carefully, as though he feared they might disappear before reaching Hiro.
"I confessed because I was afraid that if I stayed silent…" He paused, lowering his gaze to the puddle forming beneath his feet. "Everything we've built over this past month would disappear without leaving anything behind."
