Chapter 27 - Chapter 27

The line went silent for a time, then when I was about to ask if he was still there, the General spoke.

"Son, I'm going to need alot more than words. Now, I know your situation is peculiar, but nobody and I do mean nobody is willing to tussle with the PRT when it's a dirty secret that all those who do vanish." General Hackett spoke his voice starting even then going to a hard edge.

This was the hook, and I was going to cast it. "If you are in a secure location sir, I can prove it."

General Hackett snorted on the other end of the line, "And how do you plan to do that son?"

And the hook sank, now it was time to reel him in. With a motion to Glynda, I watched as she took out her own portal gun, aimed it at the far wall, and squeezed the trigger. There was a green beam projection as it hit the wall.

There was commotion on the other end of the line. "What in the darn heck sam hill is that."

Standing up with the phone still to my ear, I walked over to the portal and smiled at the three men on the other side. "That sir, is me proving that I can give the PRT a black eye.

"Well, I'll be gosh darn," The General whispered as he got up from his seat. One of the aids walked over and tried to touch the portal, but they came right through instead. I watched as the General gathered his wits once more. "Son, that's just some fancy tinker tech, and you know tinker tech can't be viable on the battlefield."

"Ohh, this isn't tinker tech, nor is it even on sale," I started then turned to look at Tsunade, "And neither is this super soldier serum, but it's hard to prove without access to state-of-the-art facilities to test outside prying eyes of certain groups."

Now his attention was laser focused and understood why all the hush-hush was being used.

The willie old man rubbed at his chin, "We gonna need more than one bottle to test."

My face twisted into a smile, "I have enough for an entire fire team."

General Hackett sighed even though he kept the vial of super-soldier juice in sight even as he looked at me, "Alright and what's it gonna cost me?"

"Fully military backing, we already have medical records showing that we aren't parahumans but knowing the PRT they are going to press another way once they realize they can't get past my lawyers," I stated smoothly. "I'll provide all the tech the beloved Corp would need, but I want to associate my hospital with a VA clinic and gain the backing of the Pentagon."

He stared at me for a bit, gave one of the aids a look then just as quickly dismissed the idea.

"Alright, let me back a few calls, I won't promise you anything until I find out if that go juice is what you say it is." General Hackett replied.

The General turned to go, but a thought struck me. They stopped and watched as I reached into my pocket and pulled out a few disk-shaped devices. Walking forward, I gave all five to the aid, "Anti-thinker fields, also disables Master/Stranger powers within twenty-five feet."

The serum was one thing, but it turns out that he was far more interested in the little device I had given him.

"You have more of these, son?" General Hackett asked with intensity.

I shook my head, "Not right now, but I have my notes, maybe you can run it by D.A.R.P.A see if they won't co-sign it."

The other Aid took the papers I produced.

"Alright, give me a week," General Hackett said with a nod, then he stepped forward for a handshake which I took with all the graze of a man who didn't forget his manners. "Alright, so how do you close this thing, I have calls to make."

Taking a step back, I gave Glynda a look, then sagged once the portal was closed. The phone returned in its cradle as I sat at the round table.

"Cortana, bring me the retcon device."

It was time to really stir the pot.
