Chapter 29 - Dinner

On the way back, we stopped by the convenience store since I wanted to pick up a few ingredients for dinner. After buying the ingredients and placing them inside a white shopping bag, Oliver, Theodore, and I decided to purchase cup noodles and eat them on our way back to the dormitories.

Walking back to the dorms with our cup noodle in hand, Oliver and Theodore exchanged numbers and created a group chat for the three of us.

"We need to get a few girls to join; this is seriously lame," Oliver sighed.

We each had rooms on different floors, so we said our goodbyes before going to each of our respective rooms. Arriving at my dorm room, I was greeted with a pleasant surprise. Sophia was sitting against my door waiting for me it seemed.

"What took you so long?" she asked, frowning as I approached her.

"I was hanging out with some friends," I said, but she ignored my words and instead her eyes drifted to the white shopping bag in my hand.

"Are those ingredients for dinner?" she asked, suppressing a small smile.

"Yes," I answered before opening the door and stepping inside.

Sophia hopped to her feet and followed me inside.

I immediately went to the kitchen and placed the shopping bag on the kitchen counter before washing my hands to prepare dinner. Meanwhile Sophia sat on my bed and began removing her leggings, her thighs were soaked with sweat, and the moment she removed her leggings, she fell back onto my bed looking relieved.

"What's the point in wearing those? It's hot outside," I asked.

"What are we having for dinner?" she asked, changing the subject.

"I was thinking fried rice. I'm planning on making curry too, so it might take a while," I replied.

Before coming to this world, I lived alone, so it was essential for me to know how to cook. And after coming to this world, I learned a lot about cooking from my mother. She said I was good at it, even better than her, but I wasn't too sure about that.

Sophia, on the other hand, couldn't cook to save her life, which was why she was here in the first place.

"That sounds good," she replied with a slight flush in her face. Though you couldn't tell just by looking at her, Sophia was a foodie. She ate more than my father, which by itself is a huge accomplishment.

"I'm going to take a shower in the meantime. I feel icky," she said before getting up from the bed and disappearing into the bathroom.

I started by cutting the vegetables into small pieces while preheating the stove. After a while, Sophia finally exited the bathroom, wearing one of my shirts which looked oversized, apart from the chest which looked a bit snug. She was also wearing…

"Wait, are those my boxers?"

Sophia continued to dry her hair with my towel and took a seat on my bed before responding.

"Yes, my clothes are all sweaty. Also, umm… I left my uniform in your laundry," she said.

Looking at her, somehow I wasn't surprised; she didn't know how to do her laundry.

"Sure, that's fine," I responded.

I'll just collect my payment when she comes to collect her uniform. As the rank 10 student, she was well off when it came to money. This will make up for the 500 zencoin I gave to Roku. This dinner would also be billed.

Looking at me as I contemplated, a pout began to form on her face.

"Don't get any lewd ideas just because you're washing a beautiful girl's laundry," she said.

"Narcissistic, are we? "

"It's not narcissism if it's true. I have no delusions about the way I look; I know I'm gorgeous" she quickly shot back. "Anyway, how long until dinner is ready?"

"It will still be a while."

Hearing that, she sighed before she took out her phone and began scrolling. While she sat on my bed scrolling through her phone, I decided to make conversation.

"How are you enjoying being placed in class Yin?" I asked.

Sophia was placed in class Yin. That was the class the elf princess belonged to. It was strange how the story changed. In the game, after the real Damien died, Sophia was sold to an organization that was known for doing not-so-good things. They were extremists so to speak.

It was an organization that didn't just hate demons but all other races that weren't human. The saw the other races as invaders and actively tried to eliminate them or pushed the world into a situation where another war would occur.

One of Sophia's missions was to assassinate the elf princess.

"It's fine, I guess," she answered, glancing up at me before looking back down at her phone.

"That's the class the elf princess is a part of. I've heard a lot of good things about her. I even saw her briefly once. She really is as beautiful as they say." I said.

For some reason, that seemed to tick her off.

"The class is like a cult. She already has everyone wrapped around her finger. I keep my distance from them. What's the point in having friends anyway?" she said.

"Spoken like a true ice queen."

With her good looks and high ranking, I bet she would be popular, but I bet she was keeping everyone at a distance. I wonder how many boys had already had their eyes on her.

When I was finally done preparing dinner, I carried both plates out of the kitchen. There wasn't anywhere to sit in the room apart from the bed, so we settled down on the floor, sitting face to face.

Sophia was practically drooling as she took the plate from my hand. For a moment, it looked as if she had forgotten that I was in the room with her as she let out a soft moan and kicked her feet excitedly as she took the first bite. When she finally remembered that I was in the room, she regained her composure and cleared her throat.

Looking at her reaction to my cooking, I couldn't help but feel satisfied. She was becoming increasingly more reliant on me.

I wonder…

How long will it take for me to become someone she couldn't live without? Someone she would do anything to stay with.

I was glad she wasn't making friends at school.

Things would go a lot easier if I was the only one she was close to.

After we were done eating, Sophia and I spent the rest of our time talking, mostly about school and the classes we had. When it had gotten late, she hurried back to her room before curfew.

The next morning, I hurriedly left the dorm room as I was late for school. I woke up around 4 a.m., feeling a sharp burning sensation in my stomach. Recognizing the pain, I knew it was because I needed to cultivate my soul weapon.

It took roughly 4 hours to cultivate. That was a far cry from the 1 hour the professor said it would take. That is why I was late for school.

Arriving at the elevator, I immediately pressed the call button.

It was a few seconds before I heard a 'ting' and the elevator door cracked. When the door opened, I was momentarily surprised by who I saw on the inside. It was Mia Nightingale, childhood friend of the protagonist and future harem member.

"Good morning," I said as I stepped into the elevator.

"Morning," she responded with what could barely count as a whisper.

Soon, the elevator door soon closed, trapping us both inside.

The room was so quiet that even my own thoughts felt loud. It made sense. I knew what she was like and didn't expect her to speak to me, but then…

"You're Damien Seymour, aren't you?"

Hearing Mia call my name, I turned around to look at her. I guess it wasn't that strange that she knew who I was. She must've memorized the names of all her classmates, I thought, but then the next word out of her mouth was far from what I expected.

"I know your secret…"
