Bella's POV
I watched as Diana shot Victor a sharp look that could cut glass.
She glanced around, making sure nobody was within earshot before speaking. "I brought her along to expand her world. Do you really think I'd mistreat anyone in my care?"
The maid's eyes sparkled with devotion as she curtsied before Diana.
Diana observed her, then gave the girl's chin a tender pinch. "Sweet thing," she murmured.
Right then, every palace lantern hanging from the Grand Shrine's eaves blazed to life at once.
Hundreds of lanterns with intricate ice-crack designs flooded the hall with light, transforming it into a stunning constellation that took my breath away.
Cheerful music drifted from the Grand Shrine as nobles and their families began streaming inside in perfect formation.
Victor glanced toward the Grand Shrine and addressed Diana. "Aunt Diana, ready to go in?"
"Of course," Diana responded, rising with fluid grace. Her maid rushed forward to steady her arm.
