Synopsis
“I gave you my soul in my last life. In this one, I’ll settle for your crown.” ~ In my first life, I was the devoted Queen. I waited two months for my husband, King Lauren, to return from the front lines—only for him to walk through the palace gates with a beautiful young maiden by his side and a decree in his hand: ‘She would be the new Queen’. And because of that evil beauty he brought to our kingdom, I died a discarded "nobody," executed for a crime I didn't commit. But death didn't take me. It sent me back. I woke up on the morning of his return. The crowds are cheering, the flowers are blooming, and my husband is about to humiliate me in front of the entire kingdom. But he doesn't know I've changed. He doesn't know I've returned with a special skill that makes me the most dangerous woman in the room. Before he can introduce his "New Queen," I hand him the one thing no one in this kingdom has ever dared to ask for: Divorce papers. In our land, a Queen asking for divorce is an abomination punishable by stoning. But Lauren thinks I’m bluffing. He looks me in the eye, tears my petition to shreds, and growls, “You are my wife. I will never stamp those papers.” He thinks he is keeping me trapped. He doesn't realize he has trapped himself in a palace with a woman who knows every one of his secrets—and is prepared to burn his kingdom to the ground just to see him sign his name. My goal is simple; I will make him fall... not in love, but to his knees. Since he spent my first life making me cry. I’ll spend my second making him bleed.

Chapter 1 - Prologue

~{DEBORAH'S POV}~

*

"GET THE PHYSICIANS NOW! THE QUEEN IS DYING!"

My ladies in waiting shouted to the guards but they paid no mind, in fact, they chose not to care.

I was wheezing and shaking violently and yet they did not look at me with pity, only my ladies in waiting who were crying and begging as they stood outside the cell I was kept in with barely nothing to keep me warm.

"H-h-hel…p ple-ease…" I pleaded with painful tears running down the side of my face as I lay on the cold floor.

"PLEASE SAVE HER! LET THE PHYSICIANS FIND A CURE FOR HER!" My ladies in waiting desperately pleaded for my sake.

"We can not do that. The king has already declared that she should not be helped by the physicians since she had committed treason and therefore, will be sentenced to death. However, since she is already severely ill, she should die from that illness."

I closed my eyes in anguish as my face contorted in pain.

And due to the cries and pleas of my ladies in waiting coupled with my unknown illness and the fact that the king had been cruel to the very end made everything extremely unbearable until I ended up passing out.

The next time I regained consciousness and opened my eyes, I was all alone. I couldn't even see properly and I was still wheezing due to the strange illness along with the fact that I hadn't been given any food and water for days. The place I was kept in was an underground prison and there was barely any light.

I sluggishly dragged my body on the dirty ground as I went to the dirty mat given to me as bed.

My bones hurt and made me whimper and cry silently. I wasn't even given the privilege to cry properly and it hurt so much that I prayed for death fast.

But right now I have one last mission to accomplish.

I used my weary hand to lift up my mat and pulled out a dirty piece of paper and a bird's feather.

When I brought it to myself, I rested my forehead on the ground as I tried to gather up every last strength in me to write back to the only person I trust would do justice for me.

Yet, when I got ready to write I discovered I had no ink, putting me in a lamentable spot. I sobbed like a wounded child until an unfortunate idea came to my mind.

I pushed the mat aside and picked up a bread knife I had taken from the plate when they were once serving me poor food.

Bringing it close, I prepared myself and slowly slit my right palm open, making me go blind in pain.

But after a moment of trying to adjust to it, I used my last strength to begin to write, using my blood as ink. It gushed out without restraint and I was thankful for it even though it was pitiful.

So I wrote;

Dear Brother,

I have been charged with a strange and severe illness by the physicians and may not live to see tomorrow or even tonight and it is with great difficulty I write to you.

I had chosen to keep quiet over the things happening here but not anymore.

They claim my illness to be contagious and I am not allowed to see anyone and because of this, I have been isolated from everyone.

The king, my husband, has betrayed us. He took a foreign woman as his second wife and at first I thought she would simply be a second wife until he later made her the Queen, pushing me to being no different from a commoner.

I am treated unjustly by the king as he rarely feeds or takes good care of me and because of a horrible accusation from the new Queen, I am locked up and charged with treason.

Now I can no longer lift my head in public because I am tagged as a criminal.

Why I write this letter is because I have a final request and this is for you to seek vengeance on my behalf.

My ladies in waiting know everything I have been through and how much I have suffered. So speak to them on your arrival and be cautious of how you carry out this vengeance because not only am I scared for your sake but because the new Queen is not a normal person. In fact, she is a monster and I am convinced without a doubt that she must have bewitched the king. My request is that you make her suffer a painful and excruciating death before she dies….

~

My hand weakened and so did my entire body as life drained from me. I had been writing the letter while lying down so it was a good position to die.

I wanted to write on but I felt death creeping in on me as everywhere became colder.

Tears blurred my vision as I heard footsteps approaching my cell but since I could not see who it was, I remained unmoving, after all how could I move when I was at the door of death?

It was until I heard the person speak to me that I felt like getting up and doing something because I knew that if she got her hands on the letter then my brother would not know about the truth. Unfortunately, I couldn't move and her words were the last thing I heard before passing on, she said;

"Your light shone so bright and yet here you are, a pathetic nobody. Just die and leave us be because you have no chance against me, Deborah."
