Although Orion tried to talk to the quiet Kalista throughout dinner, the conversation was mostly one-sided. Orion would talk about sausages, house cleaning or clothes and receive a simple "Mm" in response.
Orion was now sure that meeting Thalia yesterday was pure luck. He wondered where she was right now. Unable to sleep until the late hours of the night, Orion sat on the balcony, silently drinking a random tea he found in the kitchen.
The evening silence almost forced him to dwell on bad thoughts. In the end, he made up his mind to explore other parts of the school.
"Today was Saturday but technically we've entered Sunday. Classes start on Monday. So I have one day left for exploration." He murmured to himself while looking at the dark campus.
He put on his expensive pajamas and almost got into bed but then stopped. Orion was sure he would fall asleep quickly with the help of these extra-soft pillows. He got up one last time and walked to the second bedroom which was reached through a side door.
After a tiny corridor, he found Kalista in the second bedroom. She was sitting on a chair, watching the night sky outside the window.
"I'm going to bed. I plan to tour the school tomorrow before classes start."
Kalista confirmed with a quick but tiny nod. Her brown hair, extending from the chair to the floor, moved with her head. But then, looking at Orion for the first time, she opened her mouth.
"What will you do on the last day?"
Orion didn't understand the question at first. But slowly, he noticed something was wrong. What did she mean by "the last day"? Saturday and Sunday and...
He knew the days of the week. The entire Midkan Human Language had been loaded into his head. When he spoke in his own language, everything came out of his mouth automatically as Midkan. It was simple and effective. But now he noticed something was off. He opened his mouth and started counting one by one.
"Solis, Lunis, Terris, Aeris, Ignis, Coma, Aqua, Umbra."
He realized that he counted eight days.
"Then the new day is Ignis, which means Saturday and the weekend is a whole three days!"
Orion was surprised but it wasn't something that brought him any joy. This information didn't change his plans. Just one day became two.
"Is there a place around where I can gain experience? Like a place for hunting creatures?"
"Hunting Zone," Kalista answered in a low voice without hesitation.
"Well, can I enter this hunting place?" He asked tentatively.
An expression of uncertainty formed on Kalista's face. Her lips pursed.
"I understand. Then we'll go to this hunting place first thing in the morning. If they don't allow it, we'll stop by the library and a few different places." He answered quickly to dispel the awkwardness.
"Mm."
"Are you going to follow me all the time? Even in classes?"
"Constantly, except for classes..." She said it in a very determined tone despite her weak voice.
It was clear that Kalista took her duty seriously. Her way of speaking or behaving didn't fit her image. She had a super sexy, big and strong body as a warrior but acted like a meek child. It was weird.
"Good night, Kalista."
"Mm."
Before closing the door, he took one last look at the voluptuous woman in pajamas perched on the chair. She cut a charming figure from that angle. It was ironic that this woman spoke like a petite and timid girl yet she was his bodyguard. Orion closed the door behind him, returned to his massive room and got into his bed.
Early the next morning, the sound of knocking rose up. But it wasn't the door at the entrance of the floor or the living area, it was the bedroom door. The sharp knock didn't stop and Orion had to wake up and open his door.
There was a soldier-like man at the door looking at him like he was wondering why Orion hadn't gotten ready for their date. Orion didn't know the man but the soldier didn't seem to care.
"Good morning Orion. I am Second Lieutenant Remy and your personal trainer. You may call me Coach or Teacher Remy. I'll be giving you basic combat skills and magic training. We'll also go to different school training grounds to work together when necessary. Until further orders we'll be together during all extra-curricular hours."
He paused to look around. "I heard there's a gym and testing equipment here. We can work here or we can move to the classrooms. Which do you prefer?"
Orion hesitated to tell this young, soldier-like teacher that he still had two days of vacation left and had made plans to level up. Also, despite his black hair and built physique, there was no malice in the man's gaze toward Orion. He looked like someone starting the day with excessive enthusiasm because he hadn't proven himself at work yet.
"Nice to meet you, Teacher Remy. Working here might be more comfortable. Please, come in." He stepped aside and gestured for him to enter.
If not for the military clothes, the young teacher could have passed for someone making a house call. But the moment he stepped inside, he scanned the surroundings like a hawk.
"I like the balcony. Once you learn to meditate it'll be nice to spend hours there instead of a dark room." Teacher Remy commented as he walked over.
"Actually..." Orion didn't try to pretend he had any knowledge about dark rooms, meditation or anything else. Shrugging his shoulders, he sat on the balcony chair—where apparently it would be good to meditate—while putting on his new clothes.
Teacher Remy sat opposite him, glancing at the view below from the edge before finally focusing on him as if starting work.
"The school gave me some papers so I could ask you some questions regarding yourself. These aren't things that will affect your status as a Champion or your exam results. But the answers are useful for both your development and for us to understand you."
Realizing he wouldn't be getting out of here for a long time after hearing this, Orion greeted Kalista who had come out of the bedroom to the balcony.
