Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: A Hunter’s eye

The hunt was a process, an art. When studied and refined it was an invaluable art that can be used in many aspects of life. The patience in waiting for an opportunity, the keen eye needed to see weakness in prey was one trained and honed over years and it was a trait Cyrus had sharpened over his life.

" This is taking too long I'm going over there." Cyrus grumbled.

Sarah sighed hearing him, " Could you be any more impatient? We can't cause a scene here just wait. "

Sitting in a small booth in the back of the inn Cyrus, Sarah, and Henry were watching this mysterious dancer. The entire inn had woken up and crowded down into the common area to watch this woman and her entrancing dance. At the booth Cyrus arms were folded and his foot was aggressively tapping against the ground, his brow furrowed as he watched this performance. His keen eyes watching every one of her movements when a small glimmer of golden light emitted from her hand mere moments before her hands raised above her hand and became eclipsed by the lights of the inn. Her dance among the crowd atop the tables continuing without a hitch as Cyrus watched on.

" It's something with her hands." Cyrus muttered without averting his gaze

Sarah gave him a puzzled look as she heard him, " Huh? Obviously, she's robbing people what else would she use?"

" No, there's a light coming from her hand. She's timing it for whenever her hand lines up with the lights on the ceiling."

As she heard his small explanation Sarah squinted, looking at the woman's hands more intensely until she noticed the small golden glimmer erupt from her hands. Her eyes widened as she turned to Cyrus, her mouth opened to form a sentence but she froze as she turned to look at him. Watching the woman more and more Cyrus focused more and more, his gaze pierced through the crowd, every sway, every glance, every expression she made was processed and analyzed. His entire demeanor had shifted, like a cautious beast stalking its prey Sarah hesitating to speak as shivers ran down her neck and a cold sweat appeared on her brow, the air around him seemed as if it grew stagnant, the air itself feeling as if it was closing down on her and Cyrus, its grip growing tighter and tighter barreling towards the point of suffocation!

" Shit! Henry bite me one more time and we're having duck for dinner!" Cyrus yelped out as his leg was once again bit by his trusted companion.

As his concentration broke the air seemed to start flowing again and Sarah gasped out for air, clutching her chest as she panted heavily slowly regaining her breath. When she did she brought her hand up and smacked Cyrus across the back of the head.

" The hell was that!? Why the hell are you messing with mana like that!" Sarah berated.

Suddenly getting hit Cyrus was more than a bit confused, rubbing the back of his head. " What are you talking about? I was just focusing on her movements."

Letting out a heavy sigh Sarah pinched the bridge of her nose. " I'm really gonna have to teach you proper mana control. For now don't focus that much anymore I'll explain later."

Hearing that Cyrus rolled his eyes and leaned back in the booth they were sitting in, he wasn't going to get much more information from just watching anyways. The hours would pass and pass, the woman's extravagant show coming to an end as the inn goers had their fill and began to retires to their own rooms. With the inn lobby starting to become clear the woman hopped off of the table she was on and sauntered out of the inn. Giving each other a nod Cyrus and Sarah left the booth they were in and began to follow her.

The moon was high in the sky as the group rushed outside to follow the mysterious woman. Her magenta tipped ponytail ducked into an alleyway as they quickly rushed after her only to be met with a scene already unfolding.

" Now aren't you just a fine thing, what's a beauty like you doing out here all by yourself?" A burly man was speaking to the woman, a smirk on his face as he pinned her against the alley wall. His hand next to her hand blocking her path.

" What I'm doing is of no concern to men like you." She'd respond as she ducked under his arm and continued to walk down the alley.

Getting brushed off the man clicked his teeth and his brow furrowed, before the woman could get away he grabbed her ponytail and yanked her back, " Oh we're not done here yet." As he yanked her into his grip his off hand started to reach towards her exposed abdomen. " I don't think you know who you're dealing with, so just be a nice girl and-" as he spoke suddenly he gagged, his eyes widened as he let go of her hair. He clutched at his throat as he began to gag and gasp for air, his face turning red and then purple as his hand slid down to his chest clutching and pulling on his clothes as he collapsed to his knees. Desperately gasping for air the man keeled over on the floor as his eyes rolled back and his body went limp.

Stepping over the man's limp body the woman chuckled softly and sauntered into the shadows of the back alley.
