Chapter 6 - 6: Dragons

A dragon's power depends on its creator.

There was a book where the dragons ruled over the humans because they are a mighty being, but there was a story where the dragons are ruled by a strong human.

There were stories where humans can summon a dragon and there were stories where humans couldn't do a thing.

Then, there were several stories where humans can kill a dragon and once they do, they will earn the title of dragon slayer, but there were a couple of stories where a dragon is too strong for humans to lay their hands on.

Dragons are considered almighty and heavenly depending on an author's wishes.

In Rukiyo's book, dragons are one of the gods and goddesses of the three realm— the heavenly realm, the underworld, and the mortal realm.

Unfortunately, Rukiyo wrote in her book that Ryukiyo can't go back to the heavenly realm not because she couldn't, but because she doesn't want to.

I also don't want to go to the heavenly realm. Rukiyo thought, swallowing hardly as she stood awkwardly before the elf.

The two of them have been standing right before each other for a couple of minutes now because the elf just kept staring at her like she had said something incredibly ridiculous.

Well, she did.. She basically threatened the elf.

It's not like I have a choice, right? Rukiyo asked herself, hoping that the logical part of her brain would come up with a good reason for threatening such a fine man.

As if to answer her question, the elf suddenly lunged forward, a glowing circle appearing in his palm.

Rukiyo's mind blanked at the sight of a green magic circle appearing on the elf's hand, but before she could admire it, a vine sprouted from the magic circle and darted towards her.

Panic launched through Rukiyo in an instant. Her fight or flight reflex kicks in like a coiled spring, and she scrambles back instinctively, wings flaring out behind her in a flurry of movement.

The grass rustled and crunched under her feet as she put space between them as quickly as possible.

Just as Rukiyo kept scrambling back, a loud crack of energy shattered the silence.

A massive magic circle flared to life above them, covering the field into an eerie, ominous darkness.

The elf's calm expression shattered in an instant and his eyes widened as he whipped around, gaze fixed on the floating symbol floating in the sky.

As soon as he looked at it, the elf immediately withdrew the vine and closed his hand.

Then, the elf spun around to face Rukiyo, his calm demeanor replaced by sharp alarm— eyes wide and face pale as he hissed at her. "What are you doing?!"

He pointed up at the magic circle, the light from it casting shadows on his face, showing his fear. "Release that magic circle! Right this instant, human!"

His words is a command, low and urgent, and it causes Rukiyo to shrink back slightly, wings instinctively folding around her like a shield because who knows what he will do to her?

Her heart's racing in her chest, but it's the elf whose expression is sending alarms blaring inside her mind instead of the magic circle.

Her wings unwrapped around her and fluttered, an unintentional defensive move, and the rush of wind that came from the wings cut through the tall grasses causing the sharp blades of grass to be halved, scattering across the clearing like confetti.

Rukiyo didn't even realize what she had done, her focus is entirely on the elf, whose face is paling with every flutter of her wings.

Dragons never felt fear. They are a powerful creature after all.

However, Rukiyo is not a dragon. She's a human who was just working on an impossible project in her office just an hour ago.

She was barely processing that she had already died in her original body, so when the elf tried to attack her.. Well, it triggered her flight and fight response.

Of course, she chose flight.

Rukiyo's heart is hammering like a wounded bird in her chest and her instincts decided to take over— escape, run, get away from the danger— and her wings chose to snap wider, pumping with power.

Before she knew it, she shot into the sky without even thinking about it, her wings lifting her into the air with surprising ease.

The elf below the magic circle yelled something, but his voice was suddenly lost to the rush of wind in Rukiyo's ears as she flew higher in the darkened sky.

She flew fast, panic fueling her strength. The grass fell away below, and all she can focus on is getting away.

Rukiyo flew higher into the clouds, her breath coming in short, ragged gasps as adrenaline pumped through her veins, causing her body to shake, wings working on instinct.

As she got higher, the ground below disappeared into a sea of pearly clouds.

She has no idea where she's going, no destination in mind— she just keeps flying, the sound of gusts of wind loud in her ears along with her own heartbeat drumming wildly in her chest.

The world around her blurred into a dizzying mix of white and blue.

She's not a dragon, she's just a human, which is precisely why she couldn't help, but panic when she saw the elf trying to harm her.

She may have said some words that can be considered as a threat to the elf, but it doesn't mean that she actually meant it.

Fuck around to find out they say, and she did.

Tears stung at the corners of Rukiyo's eyes as she stopped flying, hovering in the middle of the clouds, with her wings flapping to keep her afloat.

Fear, uncertainty, and sheer terror churn in her gut, making her feel sick.

The reality of her situation hits her all at once— a brutal, cruel awakening, with the realization that she had earlier is now taking a toll on her.

She's stranded in an unfamiliar world, a place that shouldn't exist, and she.. Has no idea how to survive.
