Chapter 28 - Chapter 26 – Decisions in Silence

The classroom was quiet, the sunlight falling in soft, golden slivers through the tall windows. For the first time since the Crimson Incident, the surviving students of the Crimson Class had gathered—not in panic, but in cautious recovery.

Chris sat near the window, staring at the world outside, though his mind was far from it. Sylara's offer replayed in his thoughts over and over. It wasn't a bad offer… He couldn't deny it. Power, influence, knowledge—it could give them an edge, a chance to survive what was coming next.

Raya leaned casually against her desk, watching him. She had overheard his private thoughts earlier in the hallway. Chris hadn't noticed her, but she had been listening, her sharp gaze never leaving him.

Kira, sitting a few desks away, broke the silence with his soft voice. "You've been quiet today," he said. "Something on your mind?"

Chris turned slightly, meeting his calm, unflinching gaze. "Just thinking," he replied, deliberately vague.

Rhea, seated near the back, observed him with measured patience. "Thinking about Sylara's offer, aren't you?" she said quietly.

Chris's expression didn't change. "Maybe… Doesn't matter."

Across the room, Lina fiddled with her sleeves, guilt and unease still clinging to her. Dawson leaned back against his chair, arms crossed, watching Chris with the usual quiet scrutiny. Dice and Sage whispered quietly to one another, trying to maintain a semblance of normalcy amidst the lingering tension.

"You all… seem calm," Chris finally said, breaking the silence. "Considering what happened, it's almost suspicious."

Dice smirked lightly. "We've survived worse," he said. "Thinking too much doesn't help. You move forward, or you stay broken."

Chris exhaled slowly. "Forward, then. Carefully. Every move matters."

Raya spoke again, her voice quiet but firm. "Chris… not every offer is a trap, and not every decision is safe. Whatever you choose… you have to live with it. And I don't just mean you. Some of us are counting on it too."

Chris's eyes met hers. He nodded slightly, his face unreadable. "I know."

The bell rang, cutting through the room, signaling the day's lessons. The students gathered their books, chatting softly, but the air remained heavy with unspoken thoughts, secret calculations, and the subtle tension of the choices ahead.

Even in the calm, strategies were forming, alliances considered, and the invisible tug of power shifted quietly. Outside, the school seemed ordinary. Inside, the survivors moved carefully, silently, each aware that nothing would ever be the same.

As night fell, the dormitory grew quiet. Chris found himself alone on the roof, the moon casting silver across the empty courtyard. He pulled Sylara's offer into his thoughts again, turning it over and over, weighing risks, advantages, and possibilities.

Finally, he exhaled, a decision firming within him. It's not a bad offer. I'll accept.

He closed his eyes briefly, feeling the weight of the choice settle on his shoulders. Acceptance didn't come with excitement or joy—just a cold, steady acknowledgment.

From below, unseen in the darkness, Raya's shadow lingered at the edge of the roof. She had watched him leave the classroom earlier, had heard the thoughts he hadn't spoken. She had sensed this decision forming—but Chris made no move to return her gaze.

The moonlight glinted off the rooftop, illuminating Chris's figure as he turned away, silent, resolute, and alone. The night held its breath.

And in that quiet acceptance, a new path began—a path that none of them would be able to predict, except for him.
