"I can't bear to listen to your egocentric talk. Please if you have nothing sensible to say, use the door. You have wasted enough of my time as it is!!!!!"
"You don't have any right whatsoever to talk to me in that manner," Mrs Elena replied, her eyes blazing with fury. "Davidson is my son and I alone get to decide how he really lives his life."
Jane shook her head spitefully.
"Your son? Really?"
Mrs Elena was indignant at her statement.
"And what is that supposed to mean?"
"Is he really your son? If he is, then behave like a mother." Jane spat.
Mrs Elena landed her a slap.
Jane turned; face flustered with a smile on her face.
"Is that all you've got?"
"No, it's just the beginning." Mrs Elena said as she stood up. "I wanted to have a civil conversation with you and we've done just that. I give you a week. If by then, Jasmine is still with Davidson, you wouldn't like what I would do to you."
"You are bluffing." Jane hissed.
"Am I?" Mrs Elena smirked. "Well, well. We shall see who is bluffing." And with that, she walked majestically out just the way she has walked in.
Immediately the door slammed shut, Jane fell to a couch and relieved a breath she didn't know she was holding.
She ruffled her hair. What was she going to do??
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Just prepare your bag. I'll arrange your flight out of the country as soon as possible."
"You'll do no such thing, Davidson. I don't want to add to your burden."
"You are no burden," Davidson grunted. "What would I tell Jasmine when my Mum finally starts attacking you? If she was bold enough to show up at your house, who knows what she might do once you leave the comfort of your home?"
"Davidson, my mind is made up. I'm not leaving this country. If my life is a sacrifice to be for my daughter's happiness, I will willingly lay it down. I'm not afraid of your mother. Let her bring it on."
Davidson heaved a sigh as he saw that her mind was made up.
"Just be extra careful and double your vigilance. You might be strong but my mother is cunning and dangerous. I don't want you taking uncalculated risks."
"I won't ."Jane smiled.
"You took a long time on the phone. Everything okay?"Jasmine asked as she cuddled up to Davidson's side on the bed.
"It's nothing. It's just some stuff I have to take care of."
"Stuffs like??" She asked but Davidson sighed instead. "Hey. Hey. No secrets. Remember?"
"It's about Jane. I'm worried about her."
Jasmine sat up straight.
"Is everything alright? Is my mum alright? Did anything happen to her???"
"No, no, no, babe. She is fine. "
"Then what happened?" Jasmine was getting hysterical.
"My mum went over to confront her."
For a split second, everything around the room suddenly seemed to stand still.
"Jasmine! Jasmine!! Jasmine!!!" Davidson called as she suddenly froze. She jerked back to reality. "My God! You scared me."
"What are we going to do now? I don't want my mum to die….. I don't want her to die..." she sobbed.
"Don't worry, she is gonna be fine. I promise. No harm would come to her. Okay?" Davidson reassured as he patted her head lovingly.
The past few days were not going on well for Jane. It's been more than two weeks since the deadline that Mrs Hills gave her. She was sure she was being followed. She couldn't miss the prying and warying eyes she felt on her whether she was in the house or outside it. Mrs Elena was surely baiting her, waiting for the right time to strike.
She kept contemplating whether to leave the house or not. She was in need of some groceries and the fact that Mrs Elena's spies were hovering around her like a prey that she was wasn't making her settled.
Sighing, she walked to her room and took a gun. She was sure that Mrs Elena would strike whenever she wanted. Whether she was at home or at the mall. So, why would she, Jane Giovanni die many times before her actual death which was inevitable anyway??
She walked out of the house and towards her car. The air felt chilly. She was lucky to have worn her sweater. She looked around as she started the car. Something was definitely wrong somewhere. The street was too quiet with an eerie feeling afloat. She shrugged it off and drove away.
"She just left the house," One of the spies said to Mrs Elena on the phone.
"You know what to do," she replied without an ounce of emotion showing on her face.
"Yes ma'am," he replied and disconnected the call.
Mrs Elena took a sip of her warm tea and smiled maniacally.
"Just how long before you conform to me,Jane?"
Jane had just opened the door and the first step she took warned her that there was something wrong. First, the lights were on. She was very sure she turned everything off before she left.
Next, music was coming from the speakers. She looked around quizzically as she pulled out her gun.
She walked calmly into the living room step by step. If there was ever a time for her to be cautious, it was now.
She took a deep breath and walked to the centre table where there was a toy spinning around playing music.
She pocketed her hun and sighed. Mrs Elena was definitely trying to play a stupid prank on her. She turned to leave when she noticed something. It wasn't just a regular toy. It was a time bomb and it was going to explode in a minute time.
"Holy shit!" She cursed.
She turned frantically and dashed for the door. It was locked. She tried to break it down with kicks and blows but nothing was forthcoming. The count on the bomb was down to ten seconds. Jane braced herself for whatever that was going to happen.
It's now or never, she thought as she closed her eyes. At that very moment, the count was zero...
