Max leaned back against the mahogany table, his hands sliding casually into his pockets. He looked entirely too relaxed, which only made Seron more uneasy.
"You wanted to talk," Max said, his voice smooth and dangerous. "I'm listening. I'm very interested in what you have to say."
Seron paced in a small circle, his hands shaking. "I don't know what I did! You cut me off completely. You stopped taking my calls. Then, out of nowhere, there's a new CEO, and you... You married my wife. I don't get it, Dad. Why?" He looked at Max, praying his father hadn't connected the dots to the betrayal seven years ago.
Max let out a dry, cold laugh that didn't reach his eyes. "First of all, I wasn't avoiding you. I was recovering. It's a bit hard to answer the phone when doctors are busy digging six bullets out of your chest. It's a miracle I survived at all."
Seron went pale, his heart skipping a beat.
