Chapter 4 - Failed Escape

Alora's POV

"Please, help me" I pleaded desperately but the man in front of me remained unmoved. Judging from his exquisite attire and the way he carried himself, I could tell that he was an Alpha King with high status just like Ryan.

More importantly, he was my mate and if there's anyone who could help me right now in this very dire moment then it would be no one else but him.

"They will kill me." I begged continuously, holding onto the hem of his robe but he didn't utter a single word. "Please don't let them hurt me."

I stretched out my hands towards him but he didn't look interested in my plea. Before he could get a chance to even react, the guards caught up to me and yanked me from my kneeling position on the ground to stand up on my feet.

I struggled to adjust the fleece fabric that barely covered my naked body as I held on tighter for dear life. Tears gathered in my eyes and settled there, threatening to fall.

I couldn't escape. I failed to find a way out of this disgusting place and now, Ryan will make sure that I pay the price for my actions.

I'm a hundred percent certain that they must've alerted him about my failed attempt to escape and knowing him, things are about to get a whole lot worse and messier than they already are.

Not only would I be punish for this but he would teach me a lesson for disobeying his orders, for failing to make his friend happy and for running away.

If only I knew that I wouldn't make it out of here on time then I would've forced myself to stay put but I didn't and now, I would face the severe consequences of my actions.

"Lycan Kyrell," I heard Ryan's voice from behind me and my whole body trembled. Before I knew it, he was in front of me, shaking hands with the man that had just arrived.

This man is Lycan Kyrell? I have heard stories and rumours about him and none of them were pleasing to say the least. He was considered a ruthless tyrant and was an enemy to our for the longest time.

Of all men to choose as my mate, it had to be him? Why must I always suffer? As if I haven't gone through enough already.

"Thank you for honouring us with your presence. I didn't think that you'd make it to the celebration."

"Who is she? The slave?" The man in question asked, his eyes glancing at my direction. I hid my face away, eyes casted down when I met Ryan's cold ones staring back at me.

It was only for a brief moment but I saw the rage filled in them. He wasn't happy that I am standing here. My skin broke out in hives when it dawned on me that I was in big trouble.

"She is the daughter of a traitor." Ryan informed him. "And now, she is my slave. Did she bother you in any way?"

I stared at him, hoping, wishing that he would at least stand up for me. That he would at least help me or say something to make my punishment lighter.

At this point, I don't care if he's the greater evil but being anywhere in the world would be safer than here but the next words that came out of his mouth shocked me to the bone.

"I hardly noticed her," He commented. "Why was she trying to run away?"

"I gave her an instruction but she disobeyed me and a slave should never do that." He was talking to the man but it felt like his words were directed at me.

"Not to worry. I'll make sure she doesn't repeat her actions again." He declared sternly and turned to the guards that held me captive.

"Take her to the dungeon and lock her up." He instructed. "I'll see to her punishment myself after the ceremony."

"I'm sorry," I pleaded, my eyes heavy with tears as they dragged me away. I don't want to go back because I know what's coming. "I promise that I won't do it again."

I begged some more but my words fell on deaf ears, not only did Ryan not acknowledge them but he pretended as if I wasn't even talking to him.

The guards brought me to a secluded and isolated dungeon far away from the main ones and locked me up there.

As soon as they left, I fell to my knees and bawled my eyes out. I cried for everything that I have lost and everything that's about to happen in the future.

Today was supposed to be my birthday and now, I'll spend it in a cell like an animal waiting for slaughter.

How did Ryan change so much? He used to love me and wouldn't let even the tiniest insect on earth hurt me but now, he was inflicting all these pain on me himself.

Did the time we spent together really mean nothing to him?

"You are hurt, Alora" A small voice spoke from inside me. I recognized it that she was my wolf. I can't believe that I had gotten my wolf at such a terrible time in my life.

Usually, if my parents were alive, it would've been celebrated but now, I'm not even sure that I would live to see the next day.

The man who was supposed to be my only hope of escaping didn't even care to help me. He ignored me as if I was unimportant.

I know that Alphas like him do not interact with slaves of another Alpha. It was an unspoken rule but I am his mate. Doesn't that count for something? Didn't he notice it at all? Didn't he feel our connection or am I the only one suffering right now?

"Did I hurt you, Alora?" My wolf asked again and I shook my head, unable to stop the tears from trailing down my cheeks.

"You didn't." I sniffed "Everything is just falling apart right now. I am scared."

I cried some more, letting out all my anger and frustrations that I couldn't bottle inside anymore. My wolf went silent inside me, unable to interfere and I couldn't blame her.

There was nothing she or anyone could do. This was sadly my fate and the fact that I will have to face it alone frightens me.

I don't know how long I remained in that position sobbing but hours later into the cold night, I heard loud footsteps approaching and my heart immediately sank.

The torchlight became brighter with every step and soon enough, Ryan is standing outside, waiting for the guards to open the gate as I awaited my dreaded fate.
