Chapter 7 - Entertainment

So, really, it's not all that bad. And if we also remember the most basic fact — that throughout human history there have always been, and always will be, people who help grandmas across the street... and people who come sprinting at them, shrieking like lunatics, to snatch their handbags — then the whole picture becomes a lot clearer.

There will always be people who gracefully glide a Guarneri bow across a violin... and those who will shove that same bow somewhere dark and unpleasant to torture an enemy.

Some will smile at every little leaf and bud on a branch, gently stroking them, inhaling their scent —

and others, with stone-cold faces, will flick a lit match onto what they see as nothing more than disposable kindling.

And sometimes... it might even be the same damn person. Because inside a single human being, there's enough chaos and contradiction to fill way more than one snappy little book tailored for TikTok-era attention spans.

You really shouldn't overthink what those so-called "scoundrels" might get up to, the ones you love to judge and condemn. Because, to be honest, it's all already been invented ages ago.

Murder, assault, theft (and all the rest) have been around since the dawn of history. Only the methods have changed — but the acts themselves? They're still called murder, assault, and theft, even if someday they're committed with some ultra-fancy next-gen gadgets.

And a person freed from the grip of death will still turn to these shady little hobbies, just like their predecessors who had the courtesy to die eventually. Curse the cliché I'm about to use — I should probably smash my fingers bloody against the keyboard for even thinking it — but here we go (at least without trying to look all wise and smug, and with genuine self-loathing):

"It's just human nature."

Alongside all the horrifying, revolting stuff, there will still be plenty of beauty, wonder, and breathtaking awe. The things that fascinate and uplift us will stay fascinating — and will keep evolving into even more intricate and captivating forms, thanks to that same relentless progress of tech, culture, society, and everything else swirling in the great human soup.

And just when I feel like I've answered your question, oh stern and watchful Teacher, you — with that superior, disdainful smirk — toss out another juicy bait.

Of course I'll bite. You knew I would. You counted on it.

Because this next exam question is supposed to have no real answer —

just like it didn't for those who came before me, and maybe won't for anyone who comes after either.

You already know what it is:

"So what are we going to do about boredom, sister? Won't that finish off an immortal way faster than anything else ever could?"

And here...

Here, it's probably time to crack open a whole new section —entirely devoted to Entertainment.
