Chapter 3 - A Gasket in the Basket

"Cornfest huh ? No wonder this rust bucket left you on the road sweet cheeks. You would never gonna do 500 miles on that thing. It does you favor for not moving." *Diana said as she waved her hand to clear the white smoke that was coming from Timmo's car.*

"Tell'ya what ? I can take you to this... snoozefest with my baby here. I ain't leaving you here buddy, you can thank me later." *She added with a proud look on her face expecting for some sort of compliment.*

*Timmo looked at her and then glanced back at his smoking Siesta. He then turned around to see Diana's motorcycle parked in one of the fuel pumps of the gas station. The last thing he wanted, was to be with a feisty, outgoing woman that could shut him up with a word and made him look stupid. He didn't have any other choice though. He really wanted to go to the Cornfest and the alternatives options were non existent. He could always wait for someone to drive by the gas station but he didn't have the luxury to waste time anymore. Grand Canyon was hours away and would probably miss it entirely if he did that. Then again, being with Diana for hours could hurt his own sanity.*

"Is it... safe ?" *Timmo asked with hesitation.*

"You hurt me sweeaty ! My baby hasn't let me down. These kind of trips in open roads are it's thing. I had a road trip not long ago where I was-" *Diana got interrupted.*

"I was talking about you. You know... Are you a safe driver, or am I going to end up in a hedge or jail ? Or maybe both ? Do you even have a driving license ? What about the bike itself ? Does it have monthly checks ups ? How many miles has on it ? Is it fast ? Is it dangerous ? Do you have bike helmets ? Do you have health insurance ? How about car insurance ? Do you know the roads ? Are the roads gonna be crowded ? Is the fuel gonna last that long ? Will the weather hel- " *Timmo asked with a interrogative tone his mouth couldn't shut up causing Diana to cross her big arms to her chest and tapped the ground with her boot.*

"Listen here bud. I am offering you a free ride to Grand Canyon so you can go to your cockamamie little hayfest without moving your ass. You are not the FBI nor my driver instructor or some shit like that to ask me questions. So cut the bullshit and just say a yes or no." *Diana said with authoritative tone demanding a clean cut answer with no fluff.*

"O-Okay... ehem... yes... but at least we can-" *Timmo got interrupted. Diana put her index finger on her lips to shut him.*

"No buts. No pun intended. I will take this as yes. You have 10 seconds to grab few of your stuff. I will go crank my bike." *Diana said as she walked to the fuel pump where her motorcycle was parked.*

Timmo quickly followed behind and hoped on the bike. Diana started the bike and they drove away from the gas station into the main highway to Grand Canyon. It was 12:00 in the afternoon and they wanted 9 hours of driving to reach Cornfest.

The first hour went on smoothly, both silent in their own thoughts. Diana though was the most stressed out even if she didn't show it. Behind her cheery and tough demeanor, she was worried about the dangers that might lurk in their way. She didn't worry about the drive itself but rather the supernatural dangers that might encounter. Timmo of course, being a narrow minded and ignorant farmer would freak out if he saw any demons that could hurt them. Diana not only had to protect him from supernatural beings, but at the same time she had to protect her own secret and the secrecy of magic. But she couldn't let Timmo stranded in the gas station by himself, she had a feeling that Timmo was rather a goofy farmer and could probably hurt himself out of his goofiness.

Timmo on the other hand, had more 'grounded' worries. He was on a motorcycle running at 60 mph with a woman that previously threw a cashier into shelves and hang Timmo himself on a hook. Not only that, but she could break easily his fragile ego with just few sentences. Her appearance didn't help either. Black outfit, imposing height and... weight, curly black hair that looked more like afro or a bush. He was worried that he would get to trouble or end up in a hospital. But to him, it was worth the risk. Cornfest was one of the main farming events of the year. Only the fantasy that his garden would have double the production it already had thanks to experienced farmers advice, was pushing him to take the risk and be with this loudmouth. Besides, he didn't have any choice.

Timmo was holding tight the back passenger handle of Diana's motorcycle and could feel the air on his face while squinting his eyes shut. Unfortunately, the second bike helmet that Diana had and Timmo was wearing, had it's windshield broken. Meaning that, all the flies and various other bugs were splattering on his face due to speed. His whole face was gradually being covered in splashed bugs and dust. He could easily rest his head on Diana's back but he didn't want to give any wrong impressions and instead chose to have mutilated bug body parts on his forehead, cheeks, eyebrows and lips. Diana of course knew this and was holding back her laughter.

"IS... TH... RID...COMFO..." *Diana shouted her voice cut from speed.*

"WHAT !? YOU WANT TO GET RID OF ME !?" *Timmo mistakenly shouted back.*

"NO IDIOT ! I SAID. IS THE RIDE COMFORTABLE !?" *Diana shouted back repeating her question.*

"NO COMMENT. KEEP GOING. I AM WELL FED OF BUGS !" *Timmo responded.*

"FEDS !? WHERE ARE THEY !?" *Diana asked as she looked around to see if any police blockade is on the highway.*

"NO ! NO FEDS ! I SAID FED OF BU-" *Timmo tried to said before a fly 'gently' flew through his mouth.*

"AH ! I GET IT ! NO FEDS !" *Diana shouted back as she took a glance to check Timmo from the bike's mirror. She held his laughter as they went along on the main highway.*
