Chapter 6 - 6

Freya's POV

The weekend– of course.

As long as I'm in this household. It means –cleanup.

I lay on my bed not really minding that mum could probably come in here at any second to trash at me for still being in bed.

I went downstairs and saw dad and mum already doing the cleaning.

I rushed to hug dad who was cleaning the TV.

"Princess is awake now," he laughed as mum came from the kitchen to watch us.

"Freya you woke up really late today, you know it's the weekend and you have an outing to prepare for" mum came closer as she touched my nest of a hair.

I really need to get a new bonnet.

"Why didn't you comb your hair or wear a bonnet overnight now see how jumbled your hair is." She scolded more.

I mentally rolled my eyes, mum can be such a neat freak sometimes and I really forgot where I left my bonnet which I obviously won't tell.

"Mum it's not that bad –see" I said as I used my fingers to weave through my hair.

She rolled her eyes playfully and gave me my portion of work.

Dishes.

I hate doing those things seriously, but who am I to talk?

I rather do it than being made to do it.

We all finished cleaning up earlier as we had breakfast, with dad bringing up a conversation about my outing.

"So when is your friend coming over or you are going over?" Dad asked in the middle of breakfast.

My mind went blank for a minute cause Samantha and I never really talked about how we were gonna meet.

"Umm I don't know, I'll call her after breakfast. We didn't really talk about it like that." I answered and by the look on dad's face he wasn't impressed with my answer.

Neither was mum's facial expression which was worse.

"Don't worry, like I said I'll call her –i promise." I added.

Mum was looking more skeptical than dad, "this Samantha of a girl, why hasn't she come over before to get to know where you live?" She asked.

Not this again.

"Mum – she lives in the school dorm and she doesn't have such a freewill to come over and we aren't that close." I emphasized on the 'close'.

"Then if you guys aren't that close how does she have the freewill to want to hang out on a Saturday?" Mum added to her previous question.

I mentally rolled my eyes as I groaned, I glanced at dad for help.

'Talk to your wife'

He quickly added.

"Darling, she is a grown up now....maybe but we can allow her a few hours to hang out." Dad said calmly as he held mum's hands on the table.

"You know it's part of socializing and it's how kids are nowadays - always trying to rebel and get what they want."

Yeah dad is just going too far, I ain't a rebel and he knows that.

He continued, " you remember that one time, you told me about how you and your friends in secondary school days tried to –

"I get, I get it honey". She immediately shut him down.

Oooh, something juicy.

Looks like mum was also a baddie then in Nigeria.

Noted.

That would be for another time...maybe.

"It's just – I'm worried what if –

"Nope, nothing's gonna happen –trust me".

Okay hold up, why are they both acting like I'm being married off or what.

And what does dad mean by 'trust me ?

I quietly got up to get their attention.

"I'll...go freshen up now." I said as I walked to the kitchen, cleaned my plate and headed straight to my room to freshen up.

It was already 11:20 am.

I dialed Samantha and she picked up on the first ring.

"Hey girl, are you excited for today?" She asked over the phone cheerfully.

We had gotten a lil bit familiar with each other so...yeah.

"Yeah –kinda." I replied with a roll of my eyes.

"What happened?" She asked with slight worry in her voice.

"I don't know, my parents or specifically– my mum isn't quite approving of it and I hate that they worry too much. Like I'm just hanging out and not wanna rot in my bed all day and all of a sudden it's a problem!" I ran out.

She chuckled over the phone, " girl you don't need to worry, it's how they all are, just get dressed and I'll come over."

Wait, how does she know where I live?

"Wait, how do you know where I live and how can you possibly come over?"

I could already hear her smirk over the phone, " you'll see."

"Wait tell –.

And she cut the call.

Did I by chance give her my address earlier? I don't even know if I did.

Perfect.

I headed straight to my bathroom and had a quick shower.

Coming out some minutes later, I put on simple black sweatpants with a yellow striped shirt and white sneakers.

With a little bit of mascara and lipgloss I was ready to leave.

Twirling in front of my mirror – I know cliche, but I just can't help but do it sometimes.

After all, I'm just a girl.

My hair looked really nice in the bun I made, too perfect.

I blew myself a kiss and headed downstairs.

Samantha said she would come over... I guess but no big deal.

Mum and dad were just chilling on the couch, with mum cuddling with dad.

I felt my heart flutter at the sight of my parents.

Truly I would want a man who treats me like my dad treats mum.

Dad glanced at my direction, "you are done already." He said with a smile.

Mum turned to see me too.

She didn't say a thing but smiled.

"Yeah she's coming over".

At that mum looked at me, "how does she know where you live?" She was shocked.

I shrugged, "I don't know, I'll ask her when she comes."

"Alright, are you going to wait or you'll go meet her at her destination?" Dad asked.

"I'll –

'knock knock'

That was fast.
