"What is this thing? Is it a holy relic obtained from the Vatican?" Matt Jona was stunned. What kind of object could suppress a whole room of evil spirits just by being placed there?
Lionel pressed Annabelle's body and said, "It's an evil spirit I subdued during an exorcism before. I didn't expect this little thing to be quite useful. You should be able to go in smoothly now, right?"
"Evil spirits can be used like this!" Matt Jona's Worldview was completely refreshed.
He tiptoed, carefully Arounding around Annabelle in front of the door, fearing that he might disturb this powerful evil spirit capable of suppressing a room full of vengeful spirits and evil spirits. His small body couldn't handle it.
Lionel, however, wasn't too concerned and followed Matt Jona into the house.
The interior of the haunted house was no different from an ordinary house, but Lionel still keenly noticed something strange. From the perspective of his Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, the walls, cupboards, and bookshelves inside the house were all covered with strange death lines. Lionel was certain that these death lines were not original to the house; even if it were shoddy construction, there wouldn't be so many. Moreover, these death lines were mixed with the original death lines of the walls and cupboards, making them very difficult to distinguish.
"These can't all be sealed corpses, can they?"
Lionel was a little taken aback; the extent of exaggeration here still exceeded his imagination.
Matt Jona covered his head as images of vengeful spirits and evil spirits began to flash in his mind.
Lionel looked at him and asked, "Hey, little brother, are you alright?"
"I'm fine. Let's break this open first. This is the largest concentration." Matt Jona, clutching his dizzy head, pointed to a wall.
Here? Lionel looked carefully at that wall; indeed, it had the densest cluster of death lines.
"It looks like it's behind this wall. Do we need to break this wall open?"
Matt Jona said, "Yes, originally I wanted to smash it open myself, because only the soul of a dead person like me can touch them and truly bring them out. Now that we have a powerful exorcist like you, it seems we don't need to do that."
Lionel didn't waste any more words. He held his short knife level, aimed at a death point on the wall, and stabbed down.
Although the death lines were so chaotic that Lionel couldn't distinguish which belonged to the wall and which to the corpses inside, it was still easy to find the death point of the wall itself.
Death points are different from death lines. Cutting along a death line kills the corresponding part of the object, manifesting as a rupture and severance that ignores defense.
Piercing a death point, however, causes the death of the object itself, bringing it to the end of its existence and directly causing it to collapse.
The moment the death point was pierced, the entire wall shattered like foam, scattering like ashes, revealing the terrifying things behind it.
"What kind of ability is that? So amazing!"
Lionel wanted to reply to Matt Jona, but when he saw what was behind the wall, he fell silent.
They were mummified corpses stacked together like bricks. A rough count showed more than twenty. Rather than saying corpses were hidden behind the wall, it was more accurate to say the wall was built with corpses.
Matt Jona, standing beside him, cursed angrily, "What a beast!"
Lionel was also shocked. There were dozens of corpses behind this one wall alone; how many corpses would there be in the entire house? They were trapped in this house and suffered endless torment, no wonder the resentment was so heavy.
"Let's move them down first, then look for other corpses." Lionel said, reaching out to move the stacked corpses, but something strange happened: the corpses were clearly there, yet Lionel's hand passed directly through them.
"It's no use. They've been modified by black magic, making them difficult for the living to touch. I don't know how you can see them, but you clearly can't touch them."
Matt Jona explained to Lionel, then he began to move the mummified corpses from inside the wall.
"Can't touch them?" Lionel looked at the mummified corpses inside the wall, recalling a similar situation when he was dealing with Annabelle, but his first attempt to grab Annabelle also failed.
"This is how I caught her back then."
Lionel equipped the Entry [Armament Haki], and invisible Armament Haki covered his arm. He reached out again to move the corpses on the wall.
"It's no use, I'll just slowly move them down… Hey! You can actually touch them!"
Matt Jona was still struggling to move the mummified corpses. Seeing Lionel still trying, he had just given a helpless piece of advice when he froze.
"It's a special technique. It seems I don't need your help anymore. I can handle all of it!"
After one attempt, Lionel found that things weren't as serious as the ghost Jonah had said; he could still deal with that black magic.
"That's a good thing!" Matt Jona wasn't at all disheartened by his limited usefulness. His goal had always been to free the trapped souls, and it didn't matter who rescued them.
Matt Jona asked, "Can you find where the remaining corpses are?"
"I can vaguely find them. If not, there's still it." Lionel pointed to Annabelle at the door.
"Alright then, please find them all. I'll start by removing the black magic attached to these corpses," Matt Jona replied.
"What's the point of removing black magic?" Lionel asked curiously.
Matt Jona thought for a moment and said, "To let their souls find freedom, their bodies must be destroyed after death. But now their bodies are inscribed with black magic. If we destroy the bodies directly, we will also destroy their souls, and that is not the freedom of the soul."
"Then you do it."
Lionel said, then picked up Annabelle from the doorway, letting the doll point out the locations of the remaining corpses to him.
Corpses were sealed behind bookshelves, behind false walls, inside partitions, in the flues of cupboards, inside sofas, and even in sealed storage cabinets.
Lionel was numb. There were almost a hundred corpses inside; he even suspected that the corpses came first, and then the house was built.
Using Armament Haki, he dragged the corpses one by one into the living room. Matt Jona was still dealing with the black magic on the corpses.
Watching the other party's actions, Lionel didn't disturb him but quietly observed the difference between the corpses treated by Matt Jona and those not yet treated.
After a careful look, Lionel discovered the difference: the skin of the corpses from which Matt Jona had removed the black magic lacked a layer of something, a black pattern similar to runes, and the corresponding death lines had also disappeared.
"Is it like this?"
Lionel placed his short knife against the corpse's skin and lightly drew along the strange death line on it. Poof, Lionel imagined the sound of a bubble bursting.
The black patterns on the corpse disappeared. Lionel showed the corpse to Matt Jona: "Little brother, has the black magic been removed like this?"
Matt Jona, in pain all over, looked towards Lionel. Every time he touched a corpse, he endured the pain it had suffered, and this pain even radiated from his spirit to his physical body.
"Hoo, ha! Yes, it's removed like this! You truly are a powerful exorcist!"
After another half an hour, through the efforts of Lionel and Matt Jona, all the black magic on the corpses had been removed. Now, hundreds of corpses were laid out in the living room, almost filling the space.
Seeing Matt Jona about to pour alcohol on the corpses, Lionel stopped him:
"You're going to burn these corpses, right? Your method will burn down the house too. Let me do it."
