As Su Ming surveyed the space, a sharp tearing sound cut the air. He didn't even have time to look—his body reacted first, rolling sideways.

A pale blur flashed past his peripheral vision and smashed into the doorframe with brutal force.
Su Ming rolled, sprang up—and saw the frame had been half destroyed. A Charger-class Honkai Beast dragged itself out of the rubble, shaking off debris.
So jump scares do exist. They're just delayed.
He tightened his grip on the blade and watched the beast carefully.

He gauged the corridor width against the span of its wing-blades.
No. Absolutely not testing how wide its spin is.
Plan settled:
Keep distance. Bait the straight charge. Let it crash into a wall and exploit the recovery window. Do not get greedy—greed eats a spin-blade.
With that in mind, Su Ming backed up two steps and flashed a taunting grin.
The beast's wing-blades twitched.
Charge.
As expected: brainless, direct, committed. It built momentum and launched straight at him.
"Approaching me instead of running?"
Su Ming had deliberately positioned himself near the wall to widen his lateral dodge space. He rolled cleanly. The Charger missed—and slammed into the wall.
Down you go.
He rushed in to punish. The corridor didn't give him room for a full strike, so he snapped a single upward cut at the beast's underside.
Steel scraped hard shell, sparks bursting.
The feel was wrong.
No penetration.
Its streamlined shell resisted cutting.
The beast recovered its posture. Su Ming retreated, reassessing.
This feels like playing Elden Ring.
Rolling around like my life depends on it just to land one hit and back off—please, no. This is supposed to be Honkai. Where's my high-speed action combat? Where's the real HI3 experience?
No invincibility frames. No time fracture. No fancy branch combos.
Su Ming was one bad dodge away from calling the police.
Fine.
Streamlined armor? I'll crack it anyway.
He moved back to the half-shattered doorframe, hoping rubble would increase the beast's stagger if it collided again.
Su Ming baited distance.
But—
It didn't charge.
It drifted forward slowly instead, compressing the space.
It learned.
It was trying to force him into spin range.
In a split-second, Su Ming decided.
Turn—and run.
To the beast, this was the stupidest move imaginable. Mammals had poor rear awareness. Turning your back to something faster than you was begging for death.
The Charger didn't hesitate.
It gathered force and—
Charge.
The familiar tearing sound flared behind him. Su Ming's mouth curved into a tight smile.
He couldn't see behind him, true. But after repeated close calls, he'd learned he could feel danger like needles on his back—an instinct sharpened by [Mind's Eye].
At the moment that "sting" peaked, he rolled sideways—barely.
He sprang up and caught the exact instant the Charger slammed into the wall.
This time, he had time.
He inhaled, lifted the long blade high overhead.
"Ha!"
With a sharp exhale, the blade cut down like a guillotine.
Charger—your back is open.
The rear plating wasn't streamlined, and it was thinner. The blade bit through with only slight resistance.
Yes.
That's the right feel.
He drove the embedded blade down and forced it through.
Crack—
The Charger split cleanly down the middle. No blood—Honkai beasts didn't bleed like humans. What spilled out was dissipating energy, violet particles scattering until even the shell faded.
Su Ming leaned against the wall, breathing.
Close-quarters combat really did burn stamina. Even with his endurance, he needed a moment. A normal person would've collapsed.
He checked himself: a shallow cut on his arm. Surface-level. Nothing like last time.
He tore a strip of fabric, wrapped it quickly, and stepped over the broken frame toward the stairwell.
This stairwell led to the third floor—office space. Tight, manageable. At least it shouldn't spawn Titans or Chariot-class monsters.
He had no interest in re-experiencing being turned into "Su Ming-chan."
More importantly, the third floor had a skybridge to the main building. If he could loop through, he might reach the first floor without crossing paths with the Titan.
