Chapter 144 - Chapter 144 – Help the Family

"For now, don't bring in any outsiders. Stay in contact with us. The poison isn't contagious. It has to be injected. If you're able to, I want you to look through the manor and se if Barica had any secret rooms. Gerald would potentially know but if he's infected, and I'm sure he is, he won't be in any position to help."

He thought for a moment, "turn the dining room into a sick bay. It will make it easier to tend them. I'm going to get my wife to my room and let her rest. She's not injured, that I can see. She's just out."

"I'll help her move the furniture around. I know she can use telekinesis until her MC runs out but we need to empty that room then move beds," Dobin added.

Blaine reminded Kyle of something so Kyle added, "there's a room in the basement that has a bunch of smaller beds that would suit the purpose. They were bought back when we had all those injuries due the Walkers. There's no need to carry the heavy beds from the rooms."

Dobin nodded, "I'll bring those up."

Kent and Rosalie looked at each other.

"I'm going with mom." Kent said firmly.

Rosalie nodded, "I'm going to see if I can help bring those beds up. These tentacles have to have some use in this world."

Kent nodded at his aunt and joined his father while she went to Dobin's side.

Kyle smiled, "I guess they have their own plans of what to do. Let's get it done."

Kyle carried his wife to his room, removed everything on her and placed her between the sheets. He noticed something strange and leaned closer to examine her back. He traced his fingers over the center where it appeared something was growing out of her.

He smiled. Inside his head, Blaine also smiled, "so she's a fairy!"

Kyle felt no need to respond but he now understood why the universe brought this angel to him. They really were meant for each other.

Kent climbed on the bed and curled up on the other side of Lana. They stayed that way until morning.

While Tanisha had a lot to do, she decided to open all the doors on the way to the kitchens to take stock in how many were sick. It was quite the detour, but she had to know how many beds she needed to make room for. It was a staggering 57.

Every Able Family member who was here at the time was sick. She was fortunate that most of the servants weren't. This would help her a lot. She just needed to find where they were all hiding.

In the dining room, she moved all the chairs aside then used telekinesis to move the tables aside, against the wall furthest from the kitchen. She stacked some tables on top of the others, flipping them over so the tops were touching for stability. Before long, she had room.

She was a little hungry, so she went into the kitchen. It felt off in there. The hairs on the back of her neck prickled. Instead of getting a snack immediately, she decided to look around.

She opened the pantry door and saw blood pooling on the floor. She looked up and discovered there were three servants hanging. Barica had killed them and left them in this state.

Tanisha covered her mouth in shock and sorrow. Her stomach wanted to revolt. By the smell, they had been dead for a few days. The question she first thought was why didn't Gerald find them.

She decided to look in the other doors in the room. The next was the storage room for dishes. This was also the location for large-volume dry goods. The family purchased flour and such by the pallet, so they didn't need to order food often.

Barica didn't like relying on technology much. At least, that was what she told her family.

Tanisha always felt it was something to do with what happened to goods during the war. She felt it was more of a readiness issue. The family would not go hungry.

There were plenty of hiding places in this room, but she didn't smell blood.

"If there's anyone in this room, this is Tanisha. Barica is dead once again. We have a lot of sick that need to be tended. You'll be listening to me for now, but we'll pull through."

Slowly, five servants appeared from various hiding places.

"It was truly horrible!" one girl said, running to Tanisha and giving her an uncharacteristic hug.

Tanisha hugged her close, "I saw the sick… It's okay Holly. We're going to move the sick to the dining room so we can tend them easier. I'll need a team to clean up their rooms and another team to tend them in shifts."

Holly pulled back slowly, "the freezer! Some hid in there!"

The freezer was the next door over. It was a large walk-in that could hold enough food to feed the family for six months.

Holly thought it better if she called out, "Miss Tanisha has returned home to save us!"

"Blaine and Mistress Lana are here as well as her brother Dobin," Tanisha added, making sure her voice was loud enough to carry throughout the cold room.

"How long have they been in here?" Tanisha asked Holly.

"I'm not sure to be honest," she replied.

"Let's search…" Tanisha said with authority in her voice.

After 30 minutes, they found ten really cold people. They carried them out and wrapped blankets around them. Tanisha used a healing ability on them, thanking her brother internally for giving her a book.

As she healed them, a thought occurred to her, 'Wait… If there's no cure, that means she engineered it, so abilities didn't work against it!'

Holly updated the ten thawed people while the other four servants went to compile bedding for the sick. They would also need someone on laundry detail. None of them were looking forward to the hell that they were going to live in until the family was well again.

Not one person doubted that Master Kyle and Mistress Lana would figure out how to save the family.

The blankets, pillows and sheets were piling up on the chairs that were moved near the tables. Some would be placed near the beds once they were brought in. The rest would be move to another room once the beds started arriving.

Those who were in the freezer got straight to ork in the kitchen. They devised a plan for nutrient-dense foods that wouldn't upset the stomach. They took stock of ingredients they would need and realized they would need a lot more herbs.

"Mistress Tanisha, we've compiled a list of fresh herbs we're going to need. Do you think you can order some? We can get started now but we'll run out quickly."

Tanisha looked at the list, "I think Lana can grow these. Let's ask before we order them. Hers would be preferable to anything we could buy."

The servant nodded and resumed work.

Tanisha wasn't sure how much time had passed but she thought Lana's brother would be back by now.

"Has anyone seen Dobin?" she asked those around her.

"Has sir Dobin ever been below before?" Holly asked.
