Asher and Kael sat in tiny chairs meant for five-year-olds, knees practically to their chests, waiting outside Mrs. Chen's classroom.

Parent-teacher conference day.

Other parents filed in and out, some looking pleased, others concerned.

"I feel ridiculous," Kael muttered, adjusting his position in the too-small chair.

"You look ridiculous," Asher agreed, but he was smiling.

"You're in the same chair."

They'd been living together for weeks now—officially for "security reasons," but the threat level had decreased. Damian had been quiet. No incidents. No sightings.

They could have gone back to separate apartments.

But neither had suggested it.

"Mr. Quinn-Park? Mr. Everhart?" Mrs. Chen appeared in the doorway. "Come in, please."

They stood—Kael groaning as he unfolded from the child-sized chair—and entered the classroom.

Mrs. Chen gestured to slightly larger chairs near her desk. "Please, sit. Thank you both for coming."

"Of course," Asher said. "How are Kai and Lily doing?"
