Chapter 27 - CH.27

Each member of the Black Order had joined Thanos's ranks at different times. Corvus Glaive had been the first, followed by Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight, Black Dwarf, and finally, Supergiant. To secure his position as the leader of the five generals, Corvus had forged a tenuous alliance with Proxima Midnight. Proxima, being the weakest of the five, agreed simply to solidify her place. On the surface, the Black Order appeared united, a disciplined fighting force loyal to their master—but beneath, it was a fragile coalition, held together more by ambition than camaraderie.

Despite this, the cracks never escalated to outright animosity, and the group worked seamlessly to press the Asgardians into a corner. Though the battle was effectively decided—with over a million Asgardians surrounded—the Black Order still had to expend time and effort to consolidate their gains. After all, even slaughtering a million ordinary soldiers would take considerable effort, let alone dealing with Asgardian gods, each of whom individually rivaled twice the strength of an ordinary Dark Order warrior.

On the shattered planet, Odin and Thanos hovered amidst the debris, panting from the exertion of their clash. Normally, a fight of this magnitude could last days—or even half a month—without fatigue. But today, both had poured themselves fully into the battle, pushing past every limit. Exhaustion pressed upon them, and even their divine overload modes had been deactivated for the moment.

Odin broke the silence first, voice hoarse yet firm.

"Hoo… hoo… Thanos… if you retreat now, I can forgive and forget…"

The words were not offered lightly. In his youth, Odin would have fought to the death, no matter the odds. But age brought caution, and with it, a new weight of responsibility. Even gods grow weary. Today, he had too much to consider—the lives of his people, the fragile balance of the battlefield, and now, the limits of his own endurance.

Thanos merely smiled coldly, his expression unreadable.

"Heh… still dreaming, old man? Perhaps you should turn around and see the truth behind you."

Odin's brow furrowed as he reluctantly obeyed. The scene before him made his heart seize in disbelief. The Asgardian gods were surrounded, pinned like lambs to the slaughter. Dozens of warships, the most elite soldiers, even the bravest heroes—utterly powerless, encircled by the overwhelming might of Thanos's forces.

A grim reality settled over him. There was no time for hesitation. Every moment wasted meant more lives lost, more of his men slaughtered. Odin's lips pressed into a thin line as he turned back to face Thanos, voice hard with resolve.

"Speak. What are your conditions for leaving?"

Thanos shook his head, silent. There was no negotiation here. The Titan's goals were absolute—he wanted the galaxy, the remaining Infinity Stones, the complete subjugation of all who stood in his way. Odin could never, even in defeat, accept becoming a subordinate. The very notion was absurd.

Knowing this, Odin gritted his teeth and forcibly reignited his divine presence, determination blazing in his eyes. Every ounce of power he could muster surged outward, preparing for another brutal engagement. He had to finish this quickly; there was no room for error.

Thanos, sensing the renewed threat, activated his Dominator and Destruction powers, the purple aura around him flaring. The two gods clashed once more in a whirlwind of divine energy and devastating force. Odin's golden armor shimmered as he unleashed a series of relentless attacks, but it was clear: even their godlike strength could not achieve a decisive end without careful strategy.

A sudden glint appeared in Odin's eyes. In a split second, his golden armor burst open, fragments flying outward—not merely for protection, but as a weapon. They swirled around Thanos, wrapping him in a near-impenetrable cage, restricting his movements. The high-level Asgardian artifact was designed for this very purpose: to control an enemy's body, however strong.

As Thanos struggled within the golden restraint, Odin's spear thrust forward with unerring precision, piercing the Titan's chest. For a moment, Thanos's eyes widened in shock, disbelief mingling with his usual composure.

"Haha… I won in the end!" Odin exclaimed triumphantly, a rare smile breaking across his face. But victory was fleeting, and his senses prickled with unease. The battlefield had never felt so… unreal.

The eagle-shaped helmet atop Odin's head flickered with light, an unnatural shimmer that triggered his instincts. Nausea washed over him, vision blurring. He staggered back, realizing with a shock that the planet, Thanos, even the battlefield he had just dominated—all of it—was an illusion.

"You… you've learned this trick?" Odin whispered, heart pounding. His gaze fell to Thanos, who now casually touched the Mind Stone embedded in his gauntlet, a faint smirk on his face.

Even with the immense expenditure of Odin's energy, the illusion had faltered—he had awakened, though at great cost. The Mind Stone had been a potent weapon, but his own divine will had partially resisted it.

Odin gritted his teeth and activated his divine presence once more, refusing to waste another moment. Yet now, caution tempered his aggression. Thanos, aware of Odin's potential to trap him, became far more guarded. The slightest overcommitment could result in disaster.

As the battle continued, Odin was pushed toward another planet. A chill ran down his spine. Divine Descent—his ultimate trump card—had drained a significant portion of his energy and potential, and maintaining his current state for much longer was impossible.

We must retreat, he realized. Survival comes first. The enemy cannot be defeated alone.

With a decision made, he sought a way out. His men—though brave—could not change the tide without him. Odin turned away from the relentless assault, abandoning his frontline troops, and surged back toward the void at full speed.

Thanos, perceiving the retreat, pursued with a predator's instinct, intent on preventing escape. Yet before he could close the distance, a rainbow-colored light shot across the battlefield. Odin vanished from view, the light enveloping him before dissipating into the cosmos.

Heimdall had activated the Rainbow Bridge, a unique Asgardian interstellar portal, whisking Odin away to safety.

Thanos's face darkened. His pursuit had been thwarted by technology he could not counter. Even with the Mind Stone and all his power, the Rainbow Bridge remained beyond his grasp. The Titan's frustration was palpable, yet there was nothing he could do.

In the aftermath, the battlefield fell eerily quiet. The Asgardian gods who remained were scattered, disorganized, and weary. The Black Order, triumphant but watchful, maintained their siege, knowing that their master's temporary absence did not diminish their overwhelming advantage.

Even as Odin regrouped beyond the stars, he allowed himself a moment to reflect. Survival was not surrender—it was strategy. The war was far from over.

And somewhere, deep in the void of space, Thanos' purple eyes glinted with awareness. The game had changed, but the war was not finished. The ruler of the galaxy knew that, eventually, the paths of god and Titan would collide once again, with stakes higher than ever before.
