Chapter 31 - CH.31

A while later, Thanos returned to Sanctuary II. From the projection in the void, he saw the Dark Executor locate a place resembling the continent of Asgard.

Suspended in the vacuum of space, it was unmistakably artificial—no natural process could have created such a spectacle. The Dark Executor had been right to identify it as Asgard.

Thanos immediately dispatched ten reconnaissance ships to investigate.

One week later.

Thanks to their speed, the scouts arrived at the target, 10,000 light-years away. The images they transmitted revealed wonders beyond imagination.

The continent had flat terrain with no visible core—gravity formation remained unclear. It exhibited seasons, tides, and other natural phenomena, making it appear almost like a conventional planet. Yet the data confirmed differences: an energy shield replaced the atmosphere, and no gravity existed above it.

More than 15,000 warships hovered over the continent—mostly small—but Thanos's eyes widened.

Even after losing countless ships, Odin still commands such a massive force…

If given more time, Asgard could produce even more ships. Thanos's resolve hardened: he had to strike Odin before the Asgardians could rebuild their full war potential.

He ordered Sanctuary II to set course immediately, with the Black Order as the vanguard.

Another week later.

Beside a tranquil lake on Asgard, Thor, clad in gleaming silver-white armor, swung Mjolnir with relentless force. After ten days in the healing ward, he had fully recovered—at great cost to his mother Frigga's magic—but the first thing he did was train.

For the first time in his life, cultivation was not a mere formality. Before, Thor relied on his royal bloodline, easily attaining sub-Father power upon reaching adulthood. That effortless strength had left him idle, indulgent, and reckless.

But his battle with Thanos had changed everything. No matter how strong his parents were, they could not always shield him. He had to rely on himself.

For four days now, he had been swinging his hammer without pause. The lake's water parted with each strike, returned to calm, and parted again—a rhythmic testament to his training.

Finally, Thor lowered Mjolnir, panting, shaking his head.

"No… this isn't enough."

His royal blood gave him a head start, a well of power—but it was also a shackle, limiting his growth. Sometimes, strength itself becomes a cage.

Just then, the distant temple bells tolled:

"Ding-dong! Ding-dong!"

Thor's eyes sharpened. The bells only rang for urgent matters. He flew to the temple immediately.

Inside, the Father God sat upon his throne, expression stern. Soon, the temple was packed, councilors floating to secure positions. Odin stood and struck the ground with the Spear of Eternity. Two resounding thumps echoed through the hall, silencing everyone instantly.

He nodded in satisfaction. "According to Heimdall's latest intelligence, the enemy is approaching. They will arrive within a day. Asgard is now under a state of emergency."

He issued commands with precision:

Close all portals; no ships may leave.

Prioritize all resources for the war effort.

Every individual aged fifteen and older is now in the reserve force, under the supreme command of the God-King.

The gods stirred with fervor.

"Damn Thanos! We will make him pay!""Yes! Long live Asgard! Asgard will prevail!""Under the God-King's leadership, we shall annihilate all enemies!""We swear to defend Asgard to the death!"

Thor watched his father orchestrate the defenses, a pang of longing stirring in him. Compared to endless suppression of rebellions and idle indulgence, this—commanding, leading, shaping the battlefield from a throne—felt truly powerful.

This, he realized, was where a man belonged.

Unfortunately, barring unforeseen events, Father God still had several centuries ahead of him to rule.
