"Follow me."
Emrys said, and from his private space, he conjured a set of clothes and threw them to Maximus beside him.
"Change into these. This is Holy Terra in the 2K era. Your current appearance will attract unnecessary trouble."
He always kept necessary items in his private space, including changes of clothes, water, food, and other resources, for unexpected needs.
And now, wasn't it the time to use them?
"Alright." Maximus nodded, clearly aware that his current state was quite out of place among the surrounding humans.
He swiftly took the clothes and put them on in a few quick movements.
Although his nearly three-meter height and strong build still made him very conspicuous in the crowd, at least he could barely pass for a 'person'.
The Traveler System's 'Cognitive Blurring' stance had a time limit. Before that, they needed to find a place... Emrys was just thinking this when he saw Maximus suddenly turn his head, a terrifying killing intent surging out like a flood.
"What are you doing?!"
Emrys found Maximus' sudden behavior a bit strange.
"Someone is 'monitoring' us!" Maximus' voice was hoarse and low, but the killing intent brewing in his eyes showed no signs of weakening.
The terrifying killing intent enveloping him made even the pedestrians affected by 'Cognitive Distortion' seem to 'notice' them.
These pedestrians looked terrified and quickly moved away from them.
Someone was... monitoring them?
Emrys' pupils constricted. He had no doubt about the truth of what Maximus said.
The next moment, a massive psychic perception field spread out like a surging tide, covering hundreds of meters of space.
However, within his perception field, he found no trace of the 'monitoring' Maximus had mentioned.
"How did you discover it?" Emrys frowned.
"Could it be an illusion?"
"I... can't quite explain it." Maximus shook his head, stating with absolute certainty.
"It was like an intuition. Just now, I vaguely felt a 'gaze' in the air watching us, but now... it's gone. But I'm certain it was no illusion!"
"I believe you."
Emrys trusted his judgment.
As a Thunder Warrior, even a product of inferior 'biological Alchemy', he was far stronger than a Space Marine.
Moreover, it was reasonable for a veteran who had participated in the Terra Unification Wars and survived to have an extraordinary sensitivity to 'gazes'.
But this also meant they were exposed!
Emrys' brows furrowed, and his gaze drifted to his surroundings.
Because of Maximus' killing intent just now, coupled with his psychic detection, more and more people were starting to notice them.
"In other words, the distortion caused by the Cognitive Blurring stance is not absolute." Emrys noted this information mentally.
"What do we do now?" Maximus also noticed that these humans were moving away from them.
In fact, many humans even took out their phones, looking very curious, and took pictures of the nearly three-meter-tall Maximus.
"Excuse me, are you a basketball player?"
"Wow, wife, look quickly, this guy must be nearly three meters tall, right?"
"Holy moly, he could break the Guinness world Record, couldn't he?"
"Such strong muscles, could he have injected some kind of animal drug?"
The comments from the onlookers made Maximus' expression somewhat grim. It was his first time being gawked at like a 'novelty'.
"Alas."
Emrys sighed, plans always fell short of changes.
In his original plan, he should have taken advantage of the 'Cognitive Blurring' stance while it was still active to leave this place with Maximus.
Then, the two would find a hidden, secret environment and then slowly try to uncover the truth of this world.
But now, it seemed his plan had already veered off track from the start.
"How much longer do we have to stay here?!" Maximus was already somewhat annoyed.
Yet, these humans showed no signs of genetic modification. According to the Emperor's standards, these were the purest Terra human bloodlines!
The mission etched into his genes prevented him from harming these humans unless absolutely necessary.
Moreover, the situation here was unclear, and he didn't want to stir up trouble.
"What else can we do? Let's just go first."
Emrys rubbed his temples. At this point, hiding was impossible for them.
Since that was the case, they might as well be direct and open. The guy who had been 'monitoring' them from behind would soon reveal himself!
"Excuse me, could you please make way?"
Emrys looked at the crowd surrounding them, his voice laced with a hint of psychic energy.
This was not hypnosis, but psychological suggestion.
The eyes of the onlookers were blank, and then they slowly dispersed, clearing a path for them to leave.
Emrys and Maximus quickly departed, but just as they reached the intersection, they heard a loud bang, followed by a heavy roar.
At the intersection, a heavy freight truck seemed to have lost control and was speeding towards them.
Hitting 'the jackpot' as soon as they arrived?
Emrys felt like a million alpacas were stampeding in his mind.
What did that mean, a traffic accident?
No, judging by the direction of this heavy truck loaded with goods, it was absolutely not a so-called 'accident'!
Boom—!
The heavy truck's speed was extremely fast. Amidst the roar of the engine, screams immediately erupted from the crowd.
This was in a bustling city!
If this heavy truck really crashed in, it was hard to imagine the tragic consequences it would cause!
"Stop it, can you do it?"
He turned his head to look at Maximus.
"Who do you think I am?"
Maximus revealed a fierce grin, clenched his fists, and took a step forward.
"I am... a Thunder Warrior!"
The next moment, he slightly lowered his stance, and his huge combat boots, encased in ceramite greaves, stomped into the ground, which instantly cracked.
Spiderweb-like cracks spread wildly! His thick arms, comparable to small tree trunks, flexed, and his giant hands, covered in power gauntlets, moved one after another, defiantly meeting the roaring steel front of the truck!
The next moment, amidst the screams of the crowd, Maximus erupted with full power, moving at an inhuman speed, blocking the path of the charging heavy truck.
Gazing at the out-of-control steel behemoth, he lowered his stance, planting his feet firmly into the ground.
Accompanied by the sound of the concrete pavement cracking, dense, spiderweb-like fissures spread wildly outwards.
Maximus' gaze was calm. His thick arms, like small tree trunks, instantly flexed with muscles, and veins, like black Dragons, bulged. His two palms, one in front and one behind, defiantly met the roaring steel front of the truck!
Boom!!!
A deafening roar suddenly exploded in the bustling city street!
It wasn't the sound of metal crushing flesh, but a terrifying rumble, as if two high-speed trains had collided head-on!
The imagined scene of that 'human' being crushed did not occur.
The heavy truck, at full speed and fully loaded, with the terrifying kinetic energy of tens of tons, was actually 'pressed' to a halt by Maximus with pure strength!
The part of the truck's front that came into contact with him was twisted, compressed, and deformed by this force!
The front windshield shattered into powder amidst the terrifying roar of the collision, and the entire front engine compartment was squeezed upwards by an unimaginable force, then completely wrecked like a crushed soda can.
The screeching of tearing metal, mixed with the white dust generated by the intense friction between tires and the ground, enveloped Maximus' figure.
Maximus remained standing firm, his two legs like cast iron stakes, deeply embedded in the concrete ground.
Smoke and dust slowly settled, revealing the unmoving figure of the giant within.
Maximus slowly withdrew his palms from the truck's front. His strong body showed no injuries, as if stopping this steel behemoth was merely an insignificant warm-up for him.
Click!
He twisted his neck, emitting a soft sound like metal bearings. Then, his gaze fell on the twisted pile of scrap metal before him, as if he had just swatted a fly.
"Is that all?"
Maximus said in a low voice, his tone carrying a cold, metallic quality and undeniable power!
