Chapter 22 - 021: A Fated Meeting

The robber coughed up a mouthful of blood.

Looking at the pair of black-silk-clad long legs stepping on his chest, he couldn't feel a shred of desire.

He fumed, "Damn it, you promised to let us go, you stinking woman—your word means nothing!"

"Hmph."

Videl pressed down a fraction harder; the robber could barely breathe and nearly blacked out.

She sneered, "Idiot, I did promise to let you leave—yet haven't you already gone far from the bank? What's wrong with me catching you again?"

All six robbers: "…"

Fine.

They'd actually tried to reason with a woman?

Too narrow—way too narrow-minded.

Now she was speaking with perfect logic; how could they refute her?

They couldn't. Simple as that.

"Someone, cuff them," Videl ordered with a wave.

"Yes, Captain."

Several officers stepped forward and handcuffed the six bikers.

Once the robbers were secured, they collected the guns and stolen cash.

"Drag these scumbags back and let Kingdom law judge them—push for the harshest sentence, preferably execution," Videl said, flicking her wrist.

"Ahhh—" the robbers struggled; damn, this woman wanted them shot?

"Received."

"Stay still—move it!"

Videl's officers answered, shoving the six into the squad cars.

The cruisers howled away, heading back to the East Capital Police Bureau.

Videl climbed into her jet and shot skyward.

As the aircraft rose,

she glimpsed someone sitting on the edge of a hundred-story rooftop nearby.

A man.

"Huh? Am I seeing things?"

Hovering in mid-air, she rubbed her eyes, then stared again.

"…"

This time she was sure—

she wasn't mistaken—

there really was someone on the roof.

A tall man.

He sat with legs dangling over the building, gazing down at the street.

What Heaven-Defying nerve was this?

A fall from there wouldn't just break bones—it'd turn you into paste.

Was he insane?

No safety gear, nothing—yet he sat right on the ledge.

Suicidal?

Or mentally unstable?

Whatever the case, a slip meant certain death.

The mere thought made Videl shudder, a chill running down her spine.

How had he gotten up there?

By aircraft, probably.

She couldn't stand by and do nothing.

While her mind raced, the man turned and looked straight at her.

Videl piloted closer.

Leaning out, she shouted, "What are you doing up there—enjoying the view?"

She'd almost asked Gohan if he planned to jump.

But mentioning suicide might push him over the edge—literally—so she swallowed the words and swapped them for a question about sightseeing.

Gohan glanced at the pretty officer, recalling how she'd violently subdued the thugs, and smiled. "Yeah, just taking in the scenery. Don't mind me, Officer—carry on with your work."

Videl sized him up.

He was tall, powerfully built, strikingly handsome, radiating confidence and mystery.

His eyes were like whirlpools, pulling her in.

She had never met anyone like him.

Why would such a guy want to kill himself?

So he was probably telling the truth—

he really was just here for the view.

Yet duty compelled her: "How did you get up here? The androids are gone; the world's only getting better. There's so much left to see. We're still young—step back from the edge, okay? It's not safe."

Gohan looked at her, fighting a laugh. "You're not thinking I'm suicidal, are you?"

"Heh… heh-heh." Videl gave an awkward chuckle. "So you're not going to jump?"

"Nope. Told you—I'm just sightseeing." He drew his legs back from the ledge and stood up.

Watching him, Videl felt her scalp tingle, cold sweat trickling down her back.

At this height, he wasn't the least bit afraid?

How could he stay so calm?

One tiny slip and it would be over.

His composure was terrifying.

Just thinking about it made her knees weak.

She pressed on: "Did you come up by jet?"

Gohan shook his head. "Not at all—I flew up myself."

Videl stared, stunned. "You… flew?"

"Ah, fly... fly up here?" Videl froze, certain Gohan was joking with her.

People don't have wings—how could anyone fly?

How perfunctory!

"Wait for me." Videl banked her jet onto the rooftop and cautiously walked toward Gohan.

Gohan gave her a helpless look.

This woman is so stubborn, he thought.

He'd already said he wasn't trying to jump, yet she still came closer.

Are every one of her cells made of justice?

Such a heavy sense of duty.

Gohan admitted the policewoman before him was attractive.

Her striking figure drew the eye, and her face was gorgeous.

Among all the women he'd met, only Android 18 and Bulma were prettier.

But she had a heroic, righteous aura neither Bulma nor 18 possessed.

Those long legs paired with the uniform were a massive bonus.

A total bombshell.

He admired her—purely admired; he wasn't some brain-dead horndog.

If he thought with his lower body, Android 18's fate would've been far worse than a bullet to the head.

Only when she got close did Videl feel the full impact.

At 165 cm and 50 kg, her long legs and golden-ratio frame made her look statuesque.

But Gohan stood 186 cm, 90 kg, with a top-model build and muscles like coiled steel—raw explosive power.

The contrast between them was stark.

Still, Videl had seen far taller giants; two- or three-metre humans weren't unheard-of.

Some humanoids even reached five or six metres.

Yet she'd never met anyone as tall and handsome as Gohan.

He was basically her ideal type.

Then Gohan's fluffy tail popped out behind him.

Videl blinked.

Her heart thudded, eyes turning to hearts.

"So, so cute—I wanna touch it."

Her mind raced.

She blurted, "C-can I touch your tail?"

Realizing how rude she'd been, her face burned.

What on earth had she just said?

She couldn't believe those words had come from her.

But that fluffy tail looked so pettable.

Surely it beat stroking cats or dogs.

What girl could resist?

...Had his ears not been sharp, Gohan would've thought he'd misheard. "Sorry, that's not happening."

Videl's face flushed scarlet.

She quickly changed the subject with what she felt was sound reasoning:

"A-anyway, don't think about jumping. Life is long; we still have meaningful things to do, people who worry about you. The world is vast—go see it."

"Hahaha."

Gohan couldn't help laughing as he studied her.

Why is she convinced I want to jump? Speechless.

Still, her kindness didn't annoy him. Patiently he said,

"You're right, but I'm just enjoying the view—no suicidal thoughts at all."

"Good, good... um, when will you come down? Hop in my jet?"

Videl still wouldn't give up on "saving" him.

Gohan shook his head. "No need. Go on—I told you I can fly."

Videl was speechless.

She figured his mind wasn't quite right.

He kept insisting he could fly.

Classic psychosis.

"Fine, fine, you flew up. Humor me and ride my jet down, okay?"

"Don't do anything rash!"

"I'm Videl, captain of East Capital Police Bureau's First Division. Trust me—I won't harm you."

She stepped closer as she spoke, clearly ready to subdue him if necessary.

Soft approach failing—time for hard tactics?

Gohan rolled his eyes.

Looked like he'd have to show off to get past this.

"Watch this."

White aura flared around Gohan as he lifted into the air.

"W-wait, what did you say your name was?"

Hovering mid-air, Gohan stared at the stunned beauty below.

Seriously?

She's Videl?
