Nora's POV
"Are you certain about this?" James arches one dark eyebrow as I step onto my front porch.
"Absolutely, so I'm extending an invitation. But first, we need to set some boundaries."
"Of course, my lady."
I gesture toward the lock with a flick of my wrist, letting magic flow through my fingers to release the mechanism. My heels make me wobble slightly, and I can't decide whether that final cocktail at the pretentious downtown bar was a mistake or exactly what I needed to get through this moment. The door swings open under my touch, and I pivot to face James. He remains frozen on the threshold, unable to cross until I speak the formal words.
"First rule," I announce, gripping the doorframe to steady myself. "No attacking me. I'd rather not spend tomorrow morning sweeping vampire dust off my hardwood floors."
"You believe you have the power to destroy me?"
"I know I possess that power."
