Chapter 103 Are You Teaching Me How to Do Things?
If it were before, Nick Fury would have taken this as a joke, but today's phone call made him think more deeply.
"How exactly did you know it was him?"
Nick Fury looked at Finney Hellseg, racking his brains but still unable to guess how Finney knew.
A guess?
Mind reading?
Or precognition?
"Want to know?"
Finney Hellseg turned to look at Nick Fury, his crimson eyes on his mask seeming to flicker.
"Come on, swear an oath, and I'll consider telling you!"
"..."
The lesson from last time was still fresh in his mind; Nick Fury had temporarily excluded swearing from his life. Not to mention Finney Hellseg, now anyone who asked him to swear an oath was out of the question.
Seeing Nick Fury turn his head away, not intending to reply, Finney Hellseg pouted, ignoring him, stretched, and said, "If there's nothing else, I'll be going now!"
"Why did you go to rescue Bruce Banner and leave him with Stark?"
Seeing Finney Hellseg about to leave, Nick Fury turned back again and asked seriously.
Finney Hellseg wasn't too surprised that Nick Fury knew about this. Banner hadn't been completely confined to the villa during this period; he'd even gone to Stark Tower with Tony.
Given S.H.I.E.L.D.'s capabilities, it was perfectly understandable that they could find out.
"Are you telling me what to do?"
Finney Hellseg replied with a disgruntled tone.
Actually, given his personality, he wouldn't have said that, but he wanted to project an image of a tough and unpredictable persona onto Nick Fury. Otherwise, if his secrets were exposed, he would be the one to suffer. Sure enough, the more forceful Finney Hellseg was, the more restrained Nick Fury became, immediately shaking his head and saying, "He's a key person we're observing. I need to know the situation."
"I'm happy to!"
Finney Hellseg said calmly, "What I want to do, what I'm willing to do, is my business. Your observation is your business. We're not related."
Nick Fury frowned. He wasn't exactly known for his good temper, and he wouldn't have acted this way if he hadn't felt so insecure in front of Finney Hellseg.
"You should know he's dangerous!"
"I'm dangerous too!"
Finney Hellseg tilted his head, looking at Nick Fury, and suddenly said, "Actually, in my opinion, neither of us is as dangerous as you!"
Nick Fury looked puzzled.
"I'll take responsibility for his danger!"
Finney Hellseg wasn't afraid to take the blame, looking at Nick Fury and saying, "If anything happens to Hulk during this time, you can come directly to me."
He planned to grind experience with Hulk during this period, so he wasn't worried about anything happening. As for later, if something did happen, given their relationship, Finney Hellseg wouldn't ignore it.
Although Finney Hellseg gave him a guarantee, Nick Fury didn't feel relieved; instead, he felt even more troubled.
Hulk was a member of his planned Avengers team, but now he'd been taken away by Finney Hellseg. If Finney joined the Avengers later, it would be a buy-one-get-one-free deal—a good thing.
But if Finney Hellseg were to turn against him, he had very detailed information on the Hulk's fighting abilities.
However, their relationship was still relatively amicable at the moment, so even if he considered the possibility of betrayal, he could only think about it secretly.
Nick Fury pondered for a moment, knowing that he couldn't act rashly before understanding Finney Hellseg's intentions. Moreover, according to his investigation, Banner and Stark had a good relationship, and perhaps he could use their relationship as a starting point.
After that, Nick Fury didn't ask anything further.
Back home, Finney Hellseg was still pondering the earlier question. He could see that Nick Fury was unusually attentive to Captain America.
What Finney Hellseg didn't know was that Nick Fury's concern for Captain America stemmed from his crucial role in forming the Avengers.
Nick Fury, due to his limited abilities, couldn't be a member of the Avengers, but the Avengers needed a leader, or rather, a unifying force. None of his preferred members were capable of this responsibility.
Tony Stark's personality, style, and ideals at that time destined him to be an unsuitable leader; in fact, he should be grateful if he didn't cause trouble.
As for his subordinates, Black Widow and Hawkeye, their identities were a problem. If either of them were to become leaders, the Avengers would feel like they were working for S.H.I.E.L.D., which contradicted his purpose in establishing the organization.
As for prospective members Banner and Hulk, aside from the fact that Finney Hellseg had taken them away, they were equally unsuitable—one an academic, the other a battle-crazed maniac with intellectual deficiencies.
As for the alien prince, the glory of the Northern Gods, Thor, it's uncertain whether he'll join. Even if he does, having an alien lead would be a loss of face for Earth.
Perhaps in his heart, Finney Hellseg is actually the most suitable person to be that role, but Finney Hellseg's attitude clearly leaves him speechless.
Fortunately, Captain America's appearance fills this gap. As long as the historical records are correct, Captain America is sufficient to serve as the linchpin of the Avengers.
Finney Hellseg doesn't know Nick Fury's thoughts. After thinking for a while, he doesn't care anymore. Anyway, if nothing unexpected happens, Captain America will definitely wake up.
After last night's conversation, Skye has indeed changed a bit. She no longer hides in her room all day practicing her abilities and is now unusually seen playing something on her computer in the living room.
"Back so soon?"
Skye was a little surprised to see Finney Hellseg return and asked, "Didn't you say someone asked you for a favor?"
"Yeah, I'm done!"
Finney Hellseg sat on the sofa, glanced at the boring TV program, and suddenly asked Skye, "By the way, do you know Captain America?"
"Huh!?"
Skye was stunned for a moment, then replied inexplicably, "Of course, I even read his comics when I was a kid!"
"So what would it feel like if you knew he was still alive?"
"He's still alive?"
Skye's face was full of surprise, and she couldn't help but say, "Then he must be ninety years old!"
"Although physically he's probably around ninety, his age isn't that old."
Finney Hellseg continued, "Maybe in a while, you might see him on TV."
"He's really alive?"
Skye put her computer aside and asked curiously, "How did you know? Did you see him?"
Finney Hellseg briefly told Skye what had just happened.
"How did he manage to survive being frozen for so long?"
Skye was puzzled. "Besides, didn't history say he perished alongside the enemy? How was he frozen then?"
"Who knows how he survived?"
Finney Hellseg also felt it was illogical. Even with the super serum, he shouldn't have survived being frozen in ice for so long. Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, was in a cryogenic chamber specially designed by Hydra.
Captain America, on the other hand, was completely natural! "
But as for how he was frozen..."
Finney Hellseg replied thoughtfully, "Mainly because he didn't properly learn how to jump out of a plane. Otherwise, the world would probably be a completely different place."
