Chapter 64 - The Disliked Upper Layer

With some time left before official working hours, the two blonde girls — just like the Upper Sephirah had done before — guided X on a tour of their department.

"…I'm primarily responsible for managing the Central Command."

Among the two Sephirah, it was clearly the lively TA who took the lead.

Throughout the tour, she did most of the talking. TB mostly followed quietly at their side.

"The Central Command is huge. Even with two of us, it can feel overwhelming at times."

"Yes. There are indeed two of us."

TB occasionally chimed in like this, adding only a line or two.

"…Hah."

Hearing this slightly off-beat response, TA's brow twitched faintly — but she quickly Relaxed again.

"Still, things are going fairly well for now."

At that, TA stopped walking and turned toward X .

"Anyway, since you've made it this far, there's no need for me to repeat basic stuff like how to deal with Abnormalities, right?"

"Of course."

X smiled and nodded.

"If you disappoint me… don't think being the Manager will let you walk away unscathed."

"But I believe you'll perform excellently."

Compared to TA's skepticism, TB's tone remained warm and supportive.

"…And one more thing."

TA crossed her arms.

"Don't think you can fool me with the same attitude you use on the Upper Sephirah."

Mentioning them clearly reminded her of Netzach's laziness. TA puffed up angrily.

"Hah, those idiots…"

"From a technical standpoint, there isn't much difference between us."

TB tilted her head slightly, smiling in confusion.

"I mean they barely have any real work to do! That 'busy' look of theirs is all an act!"

TA snapped, her voice rising unconsciously as TB kept undermining her complaints.

"I can't believe we're even fellow Sephirah!"

Only then did TA realize there was still a superior present. She quickly cleared her throat and looked back at X .

"Ahem! Anyway — once you reach Central Command, the real challenges finally begin."

"I don't care whether that excites or disappoints you. All I care about is whether you can do your job."

"I hope that motivates you."

"And I hope it encourages you as well,"

TB added gently.

"Thank you, TB."

X nodded.

Then he turned slightly and smiled at TA.

"And you too. Thank you, TA."

Tap— tap—

Just as X was about to ask another question, a familiar, lazy set of footsteps echoed down the hallway.

"Hey, Tiphereth."

Netzach arrived at Central Command, holding a stack of paper documents.

"…"

TA's dislike for Netzach was unmistakable.

Every time X saw them meet, TA's expression soured instantly.

"Good day, Netzach."

TB, in contrast, greeted her politely with a smile.

"…Since you're both Tiphereth, I'll just assume you both said hello."

Netzach didn't seem bothered in the slightest by TA's open hostility.

"This is the joint training plan between Security and Central Command. Please review it."

She handed over the documents.

"Review it?"

TA didn't take them.

"No need to read it — I already know it's a mess! It's trash! We'll have to rewrite everything anyway!"

"Please place the documents over there, Netzach."

TB pointed gently to a nearby spot.

"I'll review them and notify you afterward."

"You're way too soft, Tiphereth!"

TA frowned.

"You don't need to be nice to a junkie like Netzach! Keep this up and you'll catch the same bad habits as the Upper Layer!"

"And this report is two full days late!"

"But when Netzach actually decides to work, she does very well."

TB glanced at Netzach, then back at TA, still smiling.

"You know that too, Tiphereth A."

She even deliberately used the nickname X had just given them.

"The results don't matter! Angela coddles us Sephirah too much!"

TA showed no restraint, even with Netzach present.

"If it were me, I'd crush any poisonous insect that dared crawl out in this company — no mercy!"

"In that case, you'd probably get along great with Yesod."

Netzach shrugged lazily.

"And maybe with the Manager over there too."

"Ah! Shut up and go back to your precious Upper Layer! That's where you belong!"

"I was just about to leave anyway. See you, Tiphereth."

"Yes. Goodbye, Netzach."

TB waved politely.

"The Upper Sephirah really live way too comfortably!"

Watching Netzach leave, TA started grumbling again.

"Though I'm not saying mid-layer Sephirah are exactly lovable either…"

"I like the mid-layer Sephirah."

TB stepped closer to TA, speaking gently.

"Everyone gets along so well. When I chat with them, I always end up smiling without realizing it."

"How many times do I have to tell you!"

TA puffed up again.

"Stop wandering around smiling like an idiot! You need to look firm and serious!"

"This is the Central Command!"

"I know, Tiphereth A."

TB nodded, then turned toward X .

"Oh, right — weren't we supposed to tell the Manager something?"

"…Oh. You're still here?"

TA finally remembered X was still on the tour.

"Well, work time's about to start anyway. I'll assign you a task."

Just like when the Upper Layer was unlocked, TA issued X a Central Command–specific objective.

"The details have been sent to your Manager inbox . Don't even think about slacking."

"Alright~ alright~"

X nodded cheerfully.

He didn't find TA's tsundere, sharp-tongued personality annoying at all — in fact, he found it rather cute.

"Then I'll head back. See you, TA. TB."

After X left.

"The Manager will do well, just like always."

TB smiled warmly as she watched him go.

"Or he'll fail spectacularly and mess everything up — like always."

TA snorted.

"…Still, Netzach saying she'd punish poisonous insects? I suppose that part wasn't completely useless."
