Chapter 6 - 6. A Worthy Opponent.

Life is like a game of head or tail, sometimes it will treat you well, sometimes it won't.

Life had only been going favourably for us, or that's what we thought as we were now getting a little bit carried away from our progress during the first 21 days.

That had only been kind of untrue on three occasions as we were frequently attacked when undergeared, me knocking my own teammate out with a stone that one time, and the landmines on the coast a while back.

Throught all those unfortunate events, we managed to survive all of them. Even after the system decided to kill people in their sleep, we managed to stay alive.

"Wow, we should be lucky," I said to Jake as I carefully rationed all of our food and drinks meticulously, looking for something to do early in the morning before we began our journey.

"Yeah, I guess so. I mean the system only kills the weakest right?" Jake said as he began packing his bag.

This came as a surprise to me. All this time, I thought that the system only kills randomly, with notifications memory of the actions performed by the players.

The truth was that, the goddess and the gods were watching this game, making bets on who would win based on what the players did. The other players were seen as useless and were killed the following night.

How did I know? This was broadcast to the world a few nights back. I just decided to ignore the message because of my previous anxiety about things like this.

"Damn. I should really start reading my inbox rather than letting information waste away in there."

We started moving from where we slept the previous night. We began this nomadic style of living because staying in one place made it easy for people to catch us. In turn we could be found and killed in one full swoop if we were not lucky.

Before leaving the jungle area we passed by the merchant an purchased an entire arsenal of weapons, one could make even the most daring of hitmen jealous.

Assault rifles, pistols, snipers, you name it.

My perfered sniper was the LW3 Tundra a lightweight weapon with a fast reload system which could be done in 1.3 seconds.

The walk was long. An arsenal like that was heavier than ever, taking hours to haul out of the deep thick jungle we were entangled into.

We came across the further coast of the island to find a canoe. The sea was deep and far from the next shoreside but we went on to paddle our way to the shoreside.

The paddle was long, Jake and I taking shifts in the deep sea. Hours passing, a race against the clock looming over our heads ,keeping us from burning out and stopping still long from the seashore our arms burning out from the constant rowing of the boat.

Then our misfortune finally caught up to us.

Evening came quicker then we could anticipate but there was no stopping the system for handing our fair share of struggle to us

[System message:Monster party incoming]

Then we saw it. The most terrifying thing i have ever seen in my entire life.

The sight jaw dropping even for the biggest horror fan known to man. A figure rising from the waters growing by the second.

A kraken, the monster of the sea. It's giant body only overshadowed by the leviathan, another sea beast, with gills bigger than single players and a head menacing like the terminator.

"Oh would you give us time to rest. Come on system." I shouted, as if all our efforts had come to this, but before I could do anything Jake was already shooting, hoping to distraction it so I could shoot his RPG at its head.

Unfortunately all his efforts had been futile as the kraken shook the bullets of of itself without even a flinch.

It then used it one and only move, the predatory screech. It uses this move only once per battle as the shrieking sound distorts the opposing player's sence of sound.

The kraken made its sound and i began sneaking around it to shoot more at the based where it would bleeding into the water.

Worked like a charm. The kraken began to bleed out into the water with surprising efficiency.

All the blood turned the waters into a sickening crimson colour painting the canoe like a horrifying murder scene.

I was then quickly singled out by the kraken rather quickly with the blood gushing out of this freak of nature.

Its teeth sharp enough to cut glass were displayed fully. My eyes wide glinting with a feeling I had never felt before, pure devastation.

My short life in this realm flashing before my eyes. Tears streaming down my face in defeat, fully believing that this was my end in this game. That my chances of surviving and potentially escaping this world had finally taken their leave for the final time.

But I had to fight back, no way i could let ny life end in such fashion, dying this way without fighting back would only show my weakness to the goddess and get me killed in my sleep if I didn't die now.

I picked up my M13 and started shooting at its head, using precision over spaying as an attempt to see its reaction.

Worked perfectly. The krakens head started bleeding even more, faster.

But i didn't know what was coming for me though the kraken was bleeding out it screeched making my eardrums feel as if they were gonna burst.

But just as i thought that i was fighting alone, I had the rapid fire from a pistol I had grown very fond of within the past few battle towers we raided. It was Jakes 9 millimeter.

The shots from the pistol and the kraken dropped downmaking waves appear in the water.

I had never been more excited to see the sun rise in my entire life.
