Chapter 3 - 3. Beginning of a war.

The Games had just begun, people who were once feared started sprinting out of the room, where they would be teleported into the open world in waves. Thousands of them running away from the spawn point before combat was enabled.

With only a few minutes remaining before people could fight many disappeared into the forest, where they were greeted by a pack of wolves who made quick work of all of the crafters.

My system messages were through the roof, with notifications screaming for attention on a screen I was still yet to open. I opened it only to find a ton of death messages.

[System message:another has fallen]

[Another has fallen X270]

My messages bar was at some point glitching. I frustrated from such messages attempted to change the settings hoping to find a way to condense the messages.

I found another way to change them, so I set them to trigger if 10k people die.

"There, now I won't be bugged once every 2 seconds by some random ass person dying. I should really start moving though. You never know when the system might do one of them population changes again."

And move I did. For the next few hours, I made a long trip along the coast of the island I swam to when I evaded spawn. I then came across a random crafter scavenging for materials in this rather sandy terrain.

"What are you looking for here?" I shouted out in his direction.

"Just looking for anything I can find," he responded.

I then approaches him slowly as i had no idea of his abilities nor his weapons that he had possibly crafted before we met. He then started to back away, unsure of my abilities too.

To this i then started explaining that I was friendly, looking for a teammate that I would hopefully survive with until the end.

"Yo, I am friendly. I come in peace, right now I'm looking for a teammate man, you up for it?"

"Yeah, I guess I could be your teammate."

"Okay, what's your name?"

"Im Jake."

"Im Steven"

I actually found a friend who I supposedly could trust. The first plan of action was for him and I to look for resources as he could really use a weapon.

A pistol was only 25 pieces of wood and 10 pieces of metal. After a while, we had found the pieces and were just about to craft the gun when a pack of wolves, different from the original one came for us,

I quickly grasped my micro submachine gun and unloaded the magazine on the pack positioning myself between Jack and the pack.

The wolves ran away leaving ten of them lifeless on the ground.

When we finally went to start crafting I got a system message.

[System message. Unlocked skill #2]

[Badge collected: Lucky of the draw]

[Earned 360 coins]

I Unlocked my second skill. I heard something about a few of us obtaining a second skill and how we were lucky but I was excited.

The first thing that came to mind was a stealth skill. It would give the the element of surprise to anyone I had a target on.

"They won't know what hit them."

Jake now had a pistol. A weapon that would ensure that he would be able to hold his own if we ended up in a fight.

Night fell with Jake and I just talking about how it feels being in a world that is monitored and regulated by a goddess and her family of gods in a game that can changed at any moment.

Morning came and the system reminded me that this world is even more unforgiving than I originally thought.

[System message]

[Current game population:99000]

"No way, Jake did you see the system message?"

"Bro, over 200 people died in their sleep last night"

Jake went wide eyed in horror knowing that most of the killings made were done in the victims sleep. A tactic I actually used in my past life with a 27 year old man 2 years before my execution.

The new day brought new challenges with teams being formed by noon. Approximately 30k of us were in teams of three with solo players being singled out and killed by nightfall.

The following day the most terrifying thing happened. Three teams came across the piece of land that Jake and I had been using as a base camp. A team attempted to ransack our area, but Jake shut that down fast granting the team 2 shots to the head for each team member.

The other teams fled, but one of them left a banner on our land signaling that they would be back soon. This news was shocking to us, especially Jake as his accurate shots must have sent a message that our team is a force to be reckoned with.

We both knew what this was, a declaration of war.

The realisation sent chills down my spine. The sheer thought of a rival team on its way to take a chance at our land was troubling us.

This means only one thing. We needed to gear up and fast.

At first thought I was going to gear myself and Jake up as fast as possible, but on second thought we would benefit more from creating land mines around which would stop them in their tracks.

In two days we managed to collect materials for 40 land mines that we would spread around the perimeter of the land. We would spend the remainder of the time crafting and curating weapons and quilts that would protect us.

Then came the day.
