Gabriel knew something was not right with him. Something was wrong. There was almost a light coming from her. Were the few extra drops of his blood too much for her body? Now he was wondering if the information that Ronald had given him had been nothing more than a death sentence for the small female on the bed. He was angry with himself for even trying it now. He needed to know why the demon had targeted this creature. It was part of his mission to understand what was going on. He thought he was helping, and he knew the risks involved. There was much more to all of this than he knew. Now his best chance at saving her did not seem to be working. Although he did not have a time frame for what was supposed to happen, either. All of this could be a few seconds or it could be hours to weeks. He had no idea.
Now he might have killed her while trying to save her. He felt things. He was worried. It was the first time in eons he felt anything. It was overwhelming. It was something he did not understand. Was this guilt? He was overwhelmed as he looked at the woman in front of him. He was sure she was going to die right then and there, but she began to twitch a bit. Then, all of a sudden, she stopped moving. Her eyes shot open. For the first time, he could see they were sky blue and alert as well.
"Where am I?" Her voice was rough. It was hard at the same time as she tried to look around. Everything in her body was stiff. She knew that she was struggling to see where she was. She had focused on the man standing over her as she thought she was on a bed. Flashes of the wedding and this man being there. Though she could not remember all that much. She was sore everywhere, and it was consuming her slowly. It felt like there was a fire coursing through her views and she had single-handedly fought a war.
Gabriel remembered to breathe. Though it was not truly necessary for him to do that, it was one thing he liked to do to give the appearance of him being almost human. He knew he was not one. However, the smaller creatures that were humans could never really know of the existence of other creatures that had been there all around them since before their existence in the scheme of things.
"You don't remember anything?" his voice was lowered and soft filled the room. She was still scared. Her emotions were written on her face. That had to be her human side. Though he did not know what she was, really. He was back to the thought maybe she did not either.
Gabriel was by the bed in the small room though he was not getting too close to her. In a way she was a wild animal that he had not tamed. The idea scared him and he could see she was feeling the same for other reasons. He knew how humans would react to being in a new place with someone like him. Though he knew what he looked like to her, it still was something he had to consider. She should be able to feel him the same way he could her. It was still new to the both of them.
"Pain." She replied as she looked at him. The confusion in her eyes was not good. Though he could understand it. This would take time to explain to her. "I remembered pain. I still feel it. Who are you? Where am I?"
"Pain is better than nothing. My name is Gabriel. I brought you to my house." He looked down at her and he saw the change in her. The places that were glowing were now not shining brightly. He knew that was his blood. It was still fighting with the demon's blood and it would take time to get all out of her body. However, as he looked at her, he knew that the way he saw her was also changing. He was starting to understand the last part of the warning he had received. He did not think it would be this quick that it would overtake him. Three drops of blood and his own fate was sealed and delivered to this female in front of him.
"Why?" She looked at him. The question was there in her eyes.
"We were at a wedding. We were both guests and something happened. I think you were poisoned. However, I did not believe that a hospital would be the right place for you. I brought you here to see if I could help you." Gabriel looked at her and hoped she would not question any of what he had said.
"Hospitals have a hard time with me. Thank you." She sighed deeply and then she closed her eyes. That was an answer he did not know he wanted. She had lived among the humans long enough to go to a hospital at least. She knew that she was different. Though not concrete enough to say she knew what she was, though.
"Do you know what you are?" Gabriel asked. He knew it was a long shot. He hoped maybe he would at least know what she was at some point. He was stuck with her for as long as she lived. They could start here and at least try to get to know each other. He could not reveal what he was unless he knew what she was. As long as more than half of her was supernational like he was considered being, he could share what he really was. Otherwise, things would be different for the two of them.
There were rules. Though most of them were unspoken and assumed he knew better than to test them. He could not cross them at some point, either. It was simply not something he could do having been one of the favored ones. If he crossed the line, others would as well. It was a risk that he could not take on.
"What I am?" Jana asked as she looked at him, questioning him. The look in her eye told him a lot as well. He could feel the draw to her. He had to know what she was before he was completely under the spell of the shared blood though. It was the only way for him to know that he would do the right things. Otherwise, he could break all the rules and he would not care.
"Do you know?" the words hung in the air.
"How do you know?" her eyes were wide. The question she asked answered if she knew. That was all he really needed for confirmation. No one had ever questioned her like this before. It was written on her face and in her eyes that she was unsure of how to move forward.
"Let's say I just know. So what are you?" Gabriel could feel the questions in him rising. He didn't want to push her. This small female in front of him. At least she did know what she was. At least that is what she seemed to know, or some of what she was.
"A wood nymph." She replied as she looked at him. "There is a lot more than well, but that is what my mother was. My father said once he was fallen. I was never told what that meant. It isn't like they were really open to the fact of what they were. My father was hardly ever around, and my mother said we had to move within the human world. Now tell me how you knew?"
"My name is Gabriel." He repeated himself. It seemed like that was the best way to tell her what she was. Everyone knew who he was. Along with some of the others they were talked about in other groups of creatures often. No one wanted to really know who he was, though. His name should be enough to give her the clue of what he was.
"And?" She looked at him with a confused face. The name she had heard a lot while growing up. She had heard her parents speak of something that had been done years before. Gabriel was always a part of it. Though this could not be the one they spoke of.
"Does it sound familiar?" he chuckled.
"Wait." Her eyes went really wide. "You are that, Gabriel?"
"The one and only." He replied as he smiled. "However, nothing the humans have written done is really the truth. We have our own way of doing things."
"Then how?" She looked at him. "How am I here with you?"
"I was at the same wedding." He replied, and he watched as she seemed to understand. The idea they were both there watching the wedding of her ex and the woman who he had married was not one that seemed right. There had to be something more to the event. She had her thoughts on it and she knew her mouth would open and speak before she would be able to stop it.
"I was right?" she asked as she looked at him. "She is not human, is she?"
"No, she is not." Gabriel smiled at her. "She also knew that you were not either, or she had no qualms about killing a human with her own blood. Either way, it is not good for you."
"What?" Jana exclaimed as she looked at him. She could hear a pin drop if someone else had been there. It was silent in the house they were in. She knew he wouldn't lie to her. He was an angel. She thought they could not lie either way. But he seemed to know a lot more than she did at the moment, and she was sure she did not like that thought. She wanted to know it all. If it had to do with her.
A demon had poisoned her. The thought had stuck out in her mind. Someone wanted her dead. A demon, no less. She had not done anything to anyone in her time with the humans. So this was something she had never thought of. There was simply no way for her to know any more about this unless she asked.
"Did she offer you a drink or some food right before you left the reception?" as soon as the words were spoken she knew. She knew the drink had been something more. That had been the one thing that made sense, at least.
"A drink." Jana nodded. There was nothing else that needed to be said. She sighed as she felt a wave of more pain roll through her. She winced, and he was right there next to her. He took her hand in his and gave it a squeeze. Now it seemed that her pain was also his own.
He seemed to feel all of her at the moment he took her hand. There was something there between them that she would never understand. However, it was just beginning for her and him. Whatever the tie was she would know it and soon be able to almost see it as he was getting closer to her.
